My Kudos to Bobbi Brown for Using Real Models

I saw a picture of an upcoming collection while browsing the net. The Bobbi Brown models are always beautiful. Always gorgeous, always of all ages. What struck me in this particular picture is that the model, while being of a different skintone and ethnicity, looks like me. Her face is crooked. Everyone's is but some are more noticible than others. Mine much more noticible than this beauty; however, I felt just a little bit better about myself seeing someone else who isn't perfect.

Photobucket

While on a trip up the Alcan Highway when I was 12, I broke my face. Well, half my face. We were in the middle of nowhere so I had no medical attention. I have one eyelid that is droopier and my brows don't match, (whose do? nobody's!), my cheekbones are different and while most of the changes from side to side are small, my eyes are very noticible.

So I was encouraged seeing this model whose eyes are noticibly different, not at all to the degree mine are but still, it's there!! There is much rejoicing at my keyboard as I feel that imperfections can be glorified.

By the way, if you haven't checked out the new Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Colors with SPF 12 yet, you really should. I've purchased three, (review coming), and they are BY FAR the most comfortable lipsticks I've ever worn. The coverage is fabulous, the feel is fabulous and the wear is fabulous. Really! Check them out next time you're in a store with sells them.

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Swatches! With OPI Silver Shatter!!

If you're on my Twitter feed, you know I've been dying to get my grubby little paws on the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Collection and in particular, the Silver Shatter. I have whined, whined, whined ad nauseum and now the lovelies are mine. They were worth the wait.

Photobucket

I hurried to do swatch pictures for you, so they're not the prettiest, but give you a little bit of an idea of what the colors will look like. I also learned something about Silver Shatter and it's difference from Black Shatter and I think it's important to know this before you do a full manicure with it. Silver Shatter is best applied in a THICK coat, which shatters in larger particles, ESPECIALLY when applying over a light color. Otherwise, as you'll see in my pictures, it can look like a shimmering top coat with not enough differentiation between the silver and the light color. You want high contrast between the Silver Shatter and the light base in order to really be able to see the color underneath.

My preeeeeciousssssss....
Photobucket

Here's some pictures in the bottles of the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection, left to right:

Steady As She Rose and Stranger Tides

Mermaid's Tears and Skull & Glossbones

Photobucket

Planks A Lot, Sparrow Me the Drama, Silver Shatter

Photobucket

I swear as I anticipated this collection, it grew and grew in my mind and I thought there would be about 12 colors and it would be overwhelming. Happily, it's just six plus the Shatter. I can manage that. I can even swatch that many on just two hands!!

In the following pictures, I am wearing Sparrow Me The Drama on my index finger. It's a beautiful mid toned rose. The middle finger is Steady As She Rose, which is a light mauvey rose. The ring finger is Planks A Lot, a medium depth dusty purple. Each finger has two coats. Two coats achieved opacity.

Photobucket

I applied the Silver Shatter over the fingers and just to see what it would do, I applied it over my pinky finger alone. On the pinky, it's just a nice silver finish.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Extreme close-up. Boom!
Photobucket

So now that you've seen my left hand, I'll show you the right. On the index finger and middle finger is Skull & Glossbones. Is there a cooler name anywhere? It is a light creamy grey. The ring finger boasts Stranger Tides, a light slightly dusty toned pea green. The pinky finger is covered in Mermaid's Tears, a medium dusty green.

Photobucket

And then, enter OPI Silver Shatter!

Photobucket

Photobucket

All six colors are colors I will wear. I haven't worn a green to this point, but I love the dustiness of these colors and how well they look together in a group. It makes me all the more excited for when the movie comes out in May. And, yes, I am wearing my hands like this for several days because as wierd as it may be to wear so many different colors, I'm kinda digging it. What shall I put on my thumbs?

Mac Fashion Flower Cremesheen Lipstick Ever Hip Review

Mac Ever Hip was originally released as a limited edition in the color story Liberty of London. It is being re-released as part of the new collection called Fashion Flower. Ever Hip is a cremesheen formula, which is comparable to a creamy more opaque lustre. I describe it that way because to me, the coverage isn't full but light on my lips. They don't wear as long as a satin, a matte or an amplified cream. I find I have to reapply a little more often to keep the coverage consistant and on my lips, these are best applied with liner or gloss to boost the wear time. But let's have a look, shall we?

First, these are my natural lips. Sadly lacking in color, they are a pale plummy color, with some red bits here and there. Not much to look at on their own.

Photobucket

Even smiling doesn't help boost them very much.

Photobucket

Introducing Mac Ever Hip with a swatch so you can see what it looks like alone, on my skin and on my lips. In the tube, it is a gorgeous orange coral.

Photobucket

It goes on a bit more sheer on the skin than it looks in the tube.

Photobucket

And here is where it gets interesting. Depending on your natural lip color, Ever Hip will wear more orange-coral or more pinky-coral on you. My light plum lips take it more pinky-coral.

Mac Ever Hip

The following is the most accurate picture of Ever Hip on me, colorwise, but the right side is shadowed by my camera. Most unfortunate, but that's how photography goes.

Guest Blogger Post on My Lips But Better

I am honored to guest blog for Katie who runs the website My Lips But Better. She's a thoroughly enjoyable person to talk to and I really enjoy reading her blog. Check out my post on some new Chanel lipsticks here

Channel Summer 2011 Glossimers Aurore, Pink Peony, Pensee Swatches and Review

There are three new Glossimers released for the Chanel Summer 2011 color story called Collection Les Fleurs d'Ete de Chanel. These three glossimers retail in the US for $28.50 wherever Chanel is sold. They are fairly sheer once on the lips and add shimmery sparkle.

From left to right, we have Aurore, Pink Peony and Pensee.

Photobucket

At first, I wasn't sure these Glossimers were different enough to prior editions to warrant a purchase, but when I compared them with others, I was sure I had nothing else like them. My favorite is the one I left at the counter on my first trip...Pensee. I purchased Naakar, which I adore during the previous offering of Glossimers and felt the love of the one coral would be enough.

However, my color curiosity peaked when I thought about if it would make any difference to my new Rogue Coco Shine in Rebelle to wear Pensee over it. Being a pushover for sales personnel, I took a trusted friend who I knew would tell me if it added anything or if I could still leave it at the counter. People, let me tell you, the sheer coral sparkly sheen over the top of Rebelle was fabulous!!! Even my thrifty friend said it was a must have!! The combination of Rebelle and Pensee is the most awesome coral for this summer season.

Even though these glossers apply sheerly, I'd urge you to give them a try as they provide must the oomph you need to turn a good lipstick into a great set of lips.

Nail O'The Day - Chanel Rose Confidentiel Le Vernis Nail Color

Today's manicure is brought to you by myself and Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour. I chose Rose Confidentiel because it is a beautiful deep nudey rose color and will go with anything that I wear while I step out of state for a week. It has a coat of Seche Vite on top.

I went to a nail shop today and they asked me if I was wearing Shellac because the nails are so shiny. Nope, just plain ol' Chanel. :)

Chanel Summer 2011 Lilium Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad Review and Swatches

Photobucket

Chanel launches eyeshadow quads with many new releases and this summer's collection is no exception. The quad, named Lilium, contains a fabulous deep green in a cool toned emerald color, a lightly shimmery taupe, a lightly shimmering pale yellowy-green, and a very shimmery light pink. The quad is somewhat brighter in color than my picture would lead you to believe. My screen is showing the light green as somewhat sandy, which it is not, and is showing the taupe a little darker than it is.

The following is a picture with my iphone, which is more accurate with the greens, while showing the taupe a little darker than it really is. The pink is accurate in the digi cam photo above, and washed out in the iphone photo. Because of the different ways the cameras auto-adjust colors, neither could get all four colors accurately, hence the two different cameras used.

Photobucket

I picked this quad to purchase because of the variety of colors and how well they'll work together. It's a different type of combination than many of the quads lately.

Here's some pictures on my skin, in different lighting, the second picture showing the new waterproof eyeliner as well!

Photobucket

Photobucket

The following picture is more of a closeup to show the shimmery quality of the pink color. It's going to be fabulous for highlighting at the browline and also in the inner most corner of the eye. You'll see the nearly lime light yellow green to the right.

Photobucket

The following picture shows the taupe and the green a little better by themselves. Even tho it's fuzzy, the colors show fairly well:

Photobucket

Here's a final look at the quad. I love how this photo shows the pink. This quad retails in the US for $57 dollars everywhere Chanel is sold. (I purchased mine at Nordstrom.)

Quick look at Chanel Summer 2011 Le Vernis Nail Color Morning Rose

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color in Morning Rose is part of the offering for Summer 2011 entitled Collection Les Fluers d'Ete de Chanel. There are three nail colors in the collection Mimosa, Beige Petale' and Morning Rose. My counter had no testers for me to try so I just picked the color I knew would work for me without trying. Hopefully they'll get testers so I can check out that bright yellow Mimosa before it sells out!!

Below is two coats of Morning Rose, over Orly base and a coat of Gelous. I am surprised to see such vertical lines in my nails as I don't see those with other polishes. This polish is fairly thick on application and there is no top coat in the photo.

Photobucket

The MA called this bubblegum pink. On me, I would say it's a medium lightly peach toned pink. I see the hint of peach to it, but it's definitely a medium warm toned pink. There is golden shimmer in the bottle, but it doesn't show on the nails.

Soon to come: Reviews of the Lilium Eye Quad and the glossimers!!

Chanel Summer 2011 Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner Rose Platine Review and Swatches

The new Chanel Summer color story is fabulous for Chanel lovers. I believe that one of the star standouts of the Les Fleurs d'Ete de Chanel collection is the waterproof eyeliner in Rose Platine. It is a shimmering taupe color, which takes on silvery or rose tones depending on lighting and your skin color. The MA raved about it's use on the waterline, as she was wearing it. It's definitely waterproof as I've tested that aspect extensively already. It is $29 wherever Chanel is sold.

The liner is in a roll-up applicator.

Photobucket

I have arm swatches and eye swatches for you to view. On the eyes, I wore nothing but the new Mac highlighting primer and LORAC 3D mascara and applied Rose Platine underneath the bottom lashes. I hoped that it would be easiest for you to see it that way in photographs, with no other distractions.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Perhaps I should have applied it heavier for the photographs, but in real life, it's just the perfect accent. Here it is on my arm, which is kinda tanned right now, more so than my face:

Photobucket

My goodness, that's pretty!! More Chanel Summer 2011 reviews to come!

OPI for Sephora Urban Ballerina Nail Polish Swatches and Review

I was on vacation when I was in a Sephora and spied the OPI for Sephora Ballerina Collection while I was waiting in the longest line I've ever been in. (Note to self, don't hit the mall on a Federal holiday because EVERYONE is on vacation that day, not just you). Since the line had me adjacent to the nail display, I swatched the testers on my fingers and let them dry as I got to the checkout. By the time I left, I knew I wanted Urban Ballerina but wasn't willing to reapproach that line. I had non-cosmetically inclined people waiting on me!

I held my breath for two weeks until I got back to that same locale. This was a seperate vacation. Lol, I leave this frozen land a lot during the winter. I had already ordered, received and reviewed Deborah Lippmann Naked, which just set off a whole Nude nail fever for me. To refresh, here is Naked:

Photobucket

My full review of Deborah Lippman Naked is found here: http://www.polarbelle.com/2011/02/i-was-naked-with-deborah-lippmann-in.html

I'm not saying these are the same because they're not at all. They're just in the same color family and I thought you might like to compare. Now back to Urban Ballerina...thrilled to find they still had it on my return to the vacation locale. OPI for Sephora is $9.50 in store, plus area tax, (which I'm not used to since I live in a tax free state). Here it is, two coats:

Photobucket

Urban Ballerina is a slightly pink toned light milk chocolate color. It's darn nearly a one-coater, but I'm a two coater, so there ya go. I used Orly as a base and Gelous, because I LOVE Gelous, and followed up with Seche Vite for a quick dry. I forgot about top coat. :0 Let's have another look:
Photobucket

I have been wearing this manicure for five days, and even without a top coat, it is just now chipping off one index finger which is due to pulling out my Invisalign braces trays a lot...cuz I snack a lot! But that is good wear for the abuse and no added top coat.

Let's see the two cousins together so you have an idea of the comparison between Urban Ballerina and Naked:

Revlon Black With Envy Nail Enamel Swatches & Chanel Black Pearl Le Vernis Nail Color

Compare and contrast the similar colors of nail polishes by Revlon and Chanel...I can hear my English teacher now ordering my assignment. She made me write everything twice so don't be surprised if I feel obligated to write this swatch report twice, too. I was so thrilled to find this in a market that gets things late, it occurred to me that I am withholding valuable information from you if I don't show you the similarities in a simple swatch test.

First I have a picture of the two polishes side by side.
Photobucket

The subsequent swatches may or may not be in the same order as the picture above. I'm feeling squirrly, so I'm going to make you guess which is which. Here we have one coat:
Photobucket

Here we have two coats:
Photobucket

Lastly, we have three coats:
Photobucket

Photobucket

Do you know which is which? Well, you've probably guessed but I'll spill the beans anyway. On the left side is Chanel Black Pearl and on the right is Revlon Black With Envy. I think both are beautiful and the colors are very very close.

The Chanel is slightly lighter and slightly greener; the Revlon is slightly darker and little bit greyer in comparison. I dare to declare them close enough to be dupes, the differences only detectible by a true nailphile.
