Comparing Chanel Malice Blush To Nars Liberte' Blush

Two popular coral blushes have been released for summer 2012, and I think it's time we did a side by side comparison, in case you're on the fence wanting a new coral but not sure which one to get. I've raved about both. I like both. I have no problem owning both. My husband, on the other hand....eh, whatever. I need both in my life...oh, and my husband too.

But let's take a look at Chanel Malice blush and Nars Liberte' blush.
I have swatches and pictures wearing Chanel Malice in THIS blog post.  You can find swatches of Nars Liberte' HERE.  A photo of me wearing Nars Liberte' exists at THIS location.  I provide these links so you can compare the swatches and in use photos.

Additionally, I think we need to compare them side to side.  Before I did this, I thought they were closer than they actually are.  You can see in the photo that Malice is a more of a pinker coral than Liberte', which leans to the orange side of coral.

And swatched on my arm together, Malice still on the left and Liberte' on the right:

Now the question would be, do you need both?  Heck, ya!!  Well, ok, that would depend on your needs or on your own particular collection.  For me, both corals are nice and I appreciate the differences and can utilize both colors.

So tell me what you think?  Do you prefer one over the other?  Do both fit in your blush wardrobe?  I'm interested to hear your opinions.  Do you own both or have you already checked both out and decided on one?

Quick Look Wearing Nars Summer 2012 Liberte' Blush and Ramatuelle Eyeshadow Trio

For swatches of the Nars Summer 2012 items, I purchased, see this post.  Today is a quickie post utilizing the Ramatuelle Eyeshadow Trio and the Liberte' blush, just to give you an idea of how they look on.  I confess, I was scared of Liberte' at first because it's one of those really pigmented blushes from Nars, but I found it to be quite workable and really, I really like it.

The eyeshadows wore VERY well.  I've had hit and miss luck in the past with Nars eyeshadows but this trio wore all day long with no mishaps.  The blush, ahhhhhh, I love the blush!!  If you get it, you won't be sorry.  As for the lip I'm wearing here, well, it's a mismash of a few items...a Buxom lip pencil and then I just threw a Lancome gloss over it.

Anyway, the picture is unedited and hopefully you can see that I focused on the blue in the trio for the inner 2/3 of the eye, and went with the orange on the outer 1/3 and used the golden peach to highlight.  I threw on Chanel Taupe liner just for grins.

I still haven't been able to find the Nars summer items locally, and I'm not sure I want to spend $8 shipping for one lipstick, so I'm waiting...waiting for a website code or for the collection to come on-line at Nordstrom.

And there ya go!

New Beautiful L'oreal Infalliable 24 Hour Eye Shadow Colors!!! Pics and Swatches

L'Oreal has a new summer 2012 collection out that boldy proclaims "It's GOLD or Nothing At All!". The first item I purchased was a new color of Infalliable 24 hour eyeshadow called Gold Imperial. Along with a lipstick from the collection called Rose Agate, a shimmering nude color.

Gold Imperial blew my socks off! Literally!! There were holes in my socks and they just flew off. It is a yellow gold, light and FULL of little sparkles. I loved it so much, I went back for the other three in the display. These shadows rock!!! They're a new take on the Armani Eyes to Kill creme shadows at a fraction of the price. The suggested retail price for the Infalliable shadows is just $7.99 and I purchased mine at Walgreen's. There is also a dollar off coupon attached to the display.  Waaaahoooo!!!

Infalliable shadows are supposed to be able to be worn for 24 hours with no creasing. I don't plan to wear anything on the delicate eye area for 24 hours, but I can attest that they're waterproof and crease-proof. They are long wearing and really comfortable, not dry like some long wearing shadows can be.  Remniscent of their Chanel or Armani cousins, the Infalliable eyeshadows have an inner removeable lid.

Gold Imperial is just loaded with sparkle and looks like this when you remove the outer and inner lids:

I'll show you a couple pictures wearing Gold Imperial and Rose Agate lipstick and then I'll show you swatches of the others on the collection as well. In the close up picture, the camera washes out the sparkle, but you can see it better on the far eye. The only thing I wore on the eye besides the Gold Imperial Infalliable shadow was a brown Dior liner and mascara. With the sparkle and gleam coming from the shadow, you just really don't need anything else.

There are four Infalliable 24 hour eyeshadows in the display. Three are new; one is an existing color. If you love these shadows, you'll be familiar with Golden Sage, and you'll be excited to see the Gold Imperial, Gleaming Bronze and Rose Sapphire as new editions.

I have two photos of swatches for you. The first is in regular indoor lighting. From left to right, they are Gleaming Bronze, Golden Sage, Rose Sapphire and Gold Imperial. You can see that Gleaming Bronze is an antiqued slightly green tone of bronze.

I tried to capture the swatches in a brief moment of waning early evening sun. Because of the complexity of the colors themselves, different aspects of them came out in the setting sun, and the sun shows the sparkles better than an indoor shot. They're all pretty cool, really.

There were also two bronzers, two lip glosses, and a few nail polishes in the display. I brought home Silver Sparkle nail polish. You've got to take a lookie. It's silver with multiple colors of glitter sparkle in it.

There was a gold one with big golden sparkles in it. I passed on that one because I just mainly wanted the eyeshadows...well, and the lipstick and a gloss, but mainly the eyeshadows. :) I've had ZERO creasing with these or smearing, even during naps.

Have you tried the Infalliable eyeshadows? What do you think of them? Have you seen the new colors yet in your area?
(I have a blog post featuring the Silver Sparkle nail polish swatches at this location.)

Yves Saint Laurent 'Rouge Pur Couture - Vernis a Levres' Glossy Stain #16 Pourpre Preview Swatches, Pictures and Review

One day as I was wondering Nordstrom online, I came across the YSL glossy lip stains, which said they were new and revolutionary, combining glossiness with a lip staining feature.  That's the lip equivalent of having your cake and eating it too.  You can have a gloss that as you literally eat cake, keeps a stain of color on your lips instead of some wacky outline of leftover uneven color.  Curiosity got the best of this lip lover and I ordered Pourpre Preview, #16, because I thought purple would be different than most of my other glosses. It arrives in a sleek retangular container. The gloss color can be seen thru the spy glass in the middle, which is really helpful when you have more than one.

YSL 'Rouge Pur Couture - Vernis a Levres' Glossy Stain Pourpre Preview

The applicator is a bit different than most. It reminds me of some older Lancome glosses I have in that
it's velvety, in a kind of diamond shape and it angled.

YSL Pourpre Preview YSL Pourpre Preview

None of my swatches wanted to turn out color correct. Cameras often have a hard time with purples, usually taking out the blue tones and making them a bit redder than they are. I'll still show you an arm swatch, but the color that is most accurate is the color on my lips.

YSL Pourpre Preview

Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Lip Stain

The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis a Levres' Glossy Stain is quite a mouthful to say but really comfortable to wear. It almost feels like wearing nothing. It has a light scent which is probably lavender and not at all unpleasing. I love that it leaves color behind as it wears so you don't look like a doofus. Then when you touch up your color, you get even more of the shine. It's a real winner of a formula. It retails for $32, which quite honestly, is less than I expected for YSL.

I liked this one so much that I went to the store and picked a couple other colors. My only complaint is that there really aren't any great nudes, but I suspect they'll change that in the future. So how do you like YOUR gloss? Stainy, glossy or barely there? I just like them alllllll!!

Nars Summer 2012 Pics and Swatches: Liberte' Blush, Ramatuelle Eyeshadow Trio, Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil

Today we have swatches, swatches, swatches of the Nars Summer 2012 Collection. I just love the advertising picture and was intrigued by the shadow, in particular, and how it glowed a light shimmering silvery blue and peach...I just had to see it in real life.

Isn't that gorgeous? I could picture being on a deserted tropical island somewhere when I look at that picture. Tropical islands are my happy place, so I relish any image that takes me there. Anyway, much staring at this photo and mentally going to my happy place prompted three purchases from the Nars website. I've looked at Nordstrom several times, hoping to see the items in person, but they still don't have them in at the counter where I live. But, when they get them, I'm checking out the matte lip product the model is wearing.  I just can't purchase a matte lip product without testing it first.

So, onto the show.... I suppose you would call the Ramatuelle eyeshadow trio the star of this collection. It features a light frosty blue, a frosted golden peach and a matte orange that has a hint of brick to it.

Nars Summer 2012 Ramatuelle Eyeshadow Trio

On my arm, the peach is quite golden. I suspect it will show up more peachy on my lids as my arms are warm toned and my lids are very cool.   While my skin swatches show warm colors, I suspect on my eyes, the colors will be true to the palette itself.  I'll be able to make = whichever color pop that I want to depending on what color of shadow base I use. I think this trio will be extremely versatile and fun to play with. I'll give you longevity stats as I wear it. (I just got it today so haven't worn it yet.)

Next, I did something a little unusual...I purchased the blush in the collection. It's unusual because with all the blushes I have, it seems like I should be able to make something work, and I probably can but I like how it looks in the ad. I am, after all, an  advertiser's dream. Liberte' blush is a brick orange. It'll be a good color applied lightly to my light skin and be great a little later in the summer when I have a little color. (Please, always use sunscreen!!!)

It'll be a no-brainer getting ready in the morning to use this with the Ramatuelle eyeshadow trio.

I ordered the Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil thinking it would be a frosted beige that would work well with the eyeshadow trio. It was a little bit of a surprise to find out that it's a creamy peachy nude. Not at all what I thought,

Granted, I haven't tried it on the lips yet, but I'm afraid this won't quite be my color and I'm really wishing I ordered the Moscow Pure Matte Lipstick instead. Well, we'll give it a go and see how it is. I'll leave you with one more look at all the items that I purchased together.

I plan to wear Dior Bikini nail polish this week with these items, but doesn't the light pink Trouville polish in the ad look so pretty??

(Nars Ramatuelle Eyeshadow Trio retails for $45.  Nars Liberte' blush is $28, and Buenos Aires Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil retails for $24 wherever Nars is sold.)

Have you tried the Nars Summer 2010 collection yet? If you have, what is your favorite item in it? And how do you feel the wear of these items is/are?

(Edited to add:  You can see the items in use in THIS blog post.   Buenos Aires pencil is reviewed in this post.).

Dupe Alert!! Milani Gray Tux Nail Lacquer VS OPI Metallic 4 Life Nail Polish!

My friend Tracy and I were at our respective homes, swatching polishes and sending pictures via text and Tracy issued a DUPE ALERT!!! She told me that the new Milani Gray Tux Nail Lacquer from the Pure Love Collection was an exact dupe for OPI Metallic 4 Life from the Nicki Minaj for OPI Collection. Check my pictures and see if you agree. OPI Metallic 4 Life and Milani Gray Tux

These are in super macro and macro settings. To the naked eye, the two are exactly the same. They have the same amount of grittiness on top of a dried nail. They have the same small and hex silver glitters. The Milani might be considered a smidge darker in the black base, but I think these are so so sooooooooooo close that Tracy is right in calling these dupes. (That little bit of red reflection you see is my red camera. Never buy a red camera just because you think it's cute.)

Milani Pure Love Eyeshadow Trio and Nail Lacquer Swatches, Pics and Review

When I first saw the Milani ad for the Pure Love Collection, I couldn't wait to try it.  Yesterday, I picked up three items from the collection.  I purchased the eyeshadow trio, Gray Tux nail lacquer and Bridesmaid nail lacquer.  Couldn't wait to try them so I gave them a go today.

Here they are in mint retail condition, just after purchase:
April 2012 Milani Trio

The True Romance Eyeshadow Trio contains the most pigmented black I've ever used. It has a mild silver sparkle in it. The brown shade looks more bronzey in an arm swatch but on my eye, it is a pure mid-toned taupe. The lightest shade is a light gray that doesn't impart much shimmer. In fact, it's not really going to work for me as a highlighter because it completely disappears on my skin. The other two shades are really fabulous, so I can deal with one dud. The light gray make work for other skintones, it just doesn't work for mine.

MilaniPureLoveCollection Eyeshadow Trio

Milani Pure Love Collection

I gave the shadow a run today using the taupe on the lid, lining the upper lid with the black and bringing it to the outer corner. I lined under the bottom lid with the taupe and put some of the light gray under the brown and at the inner corner. Lightly in the crease is a Laura Mercier shadow that I often use at the top orbital bone called Fresco.

I paired this eyeshadow trio with L'Oreal Sultry Raven's blush.

L'oreal Raven

So the overall look together is something like this:

Milani Pure Love Collection

I don't feel the taupe is as rosy as in the ad, nor is the gray as lightly shimmery as the ad, but it's still a darned good little trio with pleasing colors and some good pigmentation. I did a trial with the nail lacquers last night, just looking at the colors. And then today, I applied them for real. Gray Tux was such a surprise!! I thought it would be kind of sheer and need 100 coats for opacity, but it is complete in just two! It is a very dark, nearly black, grey color with silver and charcoal glitters. It's pretty awesome.

  milani true love nail lacquers

In the ad, it shows Gray Tux used as a french tip. Oh, you know I'll be trying that, but I wanted to show more of how it looks, so I used it for an accent nail.

Milani Bridesmaid is a champagne foil nail lacquer. In the macro shots, it looks like silver with bronze specs. On the nail with the naked eye, it gives hints of silver and bronze sparkles but is truly a champagne foil. This is my favorite kind of polish color. I have one little complaint. About a half hour after the manicure, I changed my pants and one nail got all wonky. I went to the store and even an hour later, another Bridesmaid nail got creases in it, and that was after a coat of Seche Vite was applied on top. That's a little confusing to me. I don't know how it's even possible, but next time, I'll wait even longer between coats and maybe use two coats of Seche Vite so as not to funky up the mani.

In this collection is also a silvery white nail polish, which looks so similar in the bottle to a Zoya I have that I felt I could skip it. This collection is only at Walgreen's and if your store gets as few as mine did, if you're at all interested in these products, you need to hurry to get them. They just came out two days ago in my town, have you seen them in yours yet?

Breaking News!!!!!!   DUPE ALERT!!!  Please see this post for information on dupes as pointed out by my nail buddy.  Thanks, Tracy!!!

Sneak Peek: New Milani Pure Love Nail Polishes and Eyeshadow To Review

April 2012 Milani Trio

Ohhhhh, Milani has the most gorgeous ad for these items. When I first saw it on Nouveau Cheap,  I just couldn't wait for the display to make it to my town because it looked so pretty!!  Today was the day.  I didn't pick up the accompanying silver polish cuz, well, a girl has to be frugal somewhere, right?

The charcoal glitter polish is called Gray Tux.  The shimmering champagne beige nail polish is Bridesmaid and the eyeshadow trio is called True Romance.  Thanks to my girl at Walgreen's for pulling these out of the boxes for me.  Swatches and reviews to soon follow!!  I'm excited.

New 2012 China Glaze Glitter Crackle Glaze Swatches!!!

China Glaze has released four new Glitter Crackle Glaze Nail Lacquer top coats and I have the swatches for you today. Just about two weeks ago, I posted a press release announcing these Glitter Crackles. Then I received some high resolution images which made me pretty excited for these as the colors and the glitter looked fun to me.  Today I have the actual items in hand and they're even better than anticipated.

First, let me show you the Glitter Crackles swatched over white on a wheel.  I like to show all crackles and shatters over white to show their true color.  I keep my crackle wheels in with the polishes so that I can easily see what color I want to go with on any given day.  Over the white, I have applied thin coats of the Crackles.  The colors are, from left to right, Luminous Lavender, Gleam Me Up, Jade-d, and Glam-More.

I want to show you the real life bottle shots next so you can see the intensity of the colors.  I think from all the pictures provided, you'll get a great idea of the true colors of these nail polishes.
First up is Luminous Lavender.

Next is Gleam Me Up:

Here we have Jade-d:

And last but not least, we have Glam-More.

For my manicure, I wanted to try the crackle glazes over a pinky toned coral, which seems to be the 'color of the season'.  I chose a new one by Venique called Brighten Your Day.  I like a thicker crackle on my manicure to really set off the contrast with heavy lines, so first, I swatched the colors on a color wheel to see if I liked it.  I've got two images to show you, first without a finishing clear top coat, and the second with a clear top coat over the polishes.

The glitters really dance like the Aurora Borealis once a shiny top coat is applied.  I liked this look so well that I decided to do a similar manicure with all the colors at once.  I applied it very thick.

I found all the colors easy to work with.  I could adjust the crevasses of the crackle easily but using it lightly or with a heavier coat.  The colors are all very pleasing to the eye and will be outstanding over a wide variety of undercoats.  Immediately after my manicure, I went to open a box, and used my nails, (I know, dumb, right?), but it didn't mess up my polish...didn't pop off or anything.

I imagine most people will wear one color at a time, but I really like this different crackled fingers look for something new and different.  Look for these in stores beginning in May 2012.  I love glitter and I love crackle.  What, I ask you, could be better than combining both in pretty colors?

(Samples were provided by PR for my consideration.  All comments and evaluations are my own.  I would like to thank PR for providing these for sampling.)
