China Glaze Holiday Joy Nail Polish Collection Swatches and Review

ChinaGlazeHolidayJoySwatches-2 Way back in July, while at Cosmoprof 2012, I was able to view many collections from China Glaze. I had to hold back my pictures of the Holiday Joy Collection by request of the company but now that the polishes are on the shelves in stores, I can show you what I saw initially and also which polishes I purchased. I'm so excited!!!

I'm going to show you the company's swatches before I show you my own. They have swatched all the colors, naturally, while I've only swatched the ones I purchased.

China Glaze Holiday Joy Swatches

The next photo, well it's not the best I've ever taken but I wanted to show you how cute the display is with the little puppy. If you notice the ring the model is wearing, it comes in one of the gift sets offered that contains two polishes.

China Glaze, Holiday Joy, Nail Polish

Ok, more swatches!!

Angel Wings, Champagne Kisses, Glistening Snow, and Winter Holly all have sparkling micro-particles and scattered holographic particles in them. Those four are also what I'd call matte glitters. They don't shine without the addition of a top coat, but they sparkle like crazy both with and without top coats. I found these glitters to apply very smoothly and uniformly with each coat drying rapidly, allowing for application of two or three coats to be complete very quickly.

The following picture shows Angel Wings, Champagne Kisses, Glistening Snow and Winter Holly from left to right.

From left to right, using Seche Vite as a shiny top coat, the following picture shows Angel Wings, Champagne Kisses and Glistening Snow.

I have a few quick bottle shots for you of Champagne Kisses, Glistening Snow and Winter Holly. I am wearing just two coats of Winter Holly on my nails and most pictures have Seche Vite over the top.

Now for the other four polishes that I purchased. From left to right, we have Pizzaz, Blue Bells Ring, Glitter All The Way and Pure Joy.

China Glaze, Holiday Joy, Nail Polish, glitter, collection

The glitters in this group pictured have larger glitter particles that give so much shine, I found my swatches difficult to photograph. Pizzaz is multi-colored glitter in a clear base but the majority of the glitter is silver and it reflects so much flash with each photograph that it was like trying to take a picture of a ghost. All I could get is pure flash reflection but none of the essence of the nature of the glitter. You can see the colors better in bottle shots.

First we have Pizzaz. In addition to silver, you'll find pink, teal, gold, green, red...it seems that the colors are endless. On my personal swatch wheel, I got great coverage with just two coats.

Glitter All The Way has a very unique combination of glitter colors. It contains purple, gold, red and green of varying sizes in a clear base. It's a wonder to look at. Again, it gave me nice coverage with two coats.

Blue Bells Ring is a nice royal blue foil. It gave such great coverage with one coat! But I'm a habitual two coater, so I did two coats anyway. Check it out on my swatch wheel. It's a great blue.

And now, for my final purchase, we have Pure Joy. I used three coats in the swatch wheel for complete coverage. Pure Joy is a beautiful classic Christmas red glitter with gold glitter throughout in a clear base.

China Glaze Pure Joy Nail Polish

I happened to see a holiday Loreal display and I picked up the red polish called Fancy Me to compare it to Pure Joy. Fancy Me is also a red and gold glitter. However, these are not dupes. Fancy Me, (on the left), is more of a cherry red in a light red base and has fewer gold glitters than Pure Joy. It is also three coats in the nail swatch. I prefer Pure Joy, both in look and in application.

The Holiday Joy collection should be on shelves now wherever China Glaze is sold in your area. These are my picks from the collection. I just couldn't choose which red I liked on my first trip to the store, so I stuck with the glitter. Which colors are you drawn to? Are any a "must have" or a "must pass" for you? Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the nice gift sets China Glaze always puts out with their holiday collections.

Pixi Classy Cocoa Nail Polish Swatches and Review

The Pixi Fall 2012 collection includes three nail polish colors in the lineup; Classy Cocoa, Evening Emerald and Amazing Amethyst. They are pictured in that same order in the photo.

Pixi nail polish, Classy Cocoa review

Today, I am going to treat you to Pixi's Classy Cocoa. This is a gorgeous polish, being a plummy taupe brown with a golden mico-shimmer.

I have a close up shot of the bottle to show you the gold shimmers in it. The lighting is a little different in this shot and shows more of the plummy aspect of the polish.

Pixi Beauty, Classy Cocoa, Nail Polish

With this Pixi nail polish, I got incredible wear. I wore it a full six days before I decided to change it but still didn't have any chips AT ALL! If you look really closely, you can see the very slight beginning of tip wear. That's incredible for this length of wear. I am completely impressed with this nail polish formula.

You can find Pixi on the shelf or online at Target as well as the Pixi website.  The msrp is $8 USD but it's priced slightly higher in Alaska at Target.  I really think you should give it a lookie-loo because the polish wear and smooth feel is just so impressive.
Have you tried any Pixi products?  I have a Lid Last Shadow Pen that I really love and wear a lot, too.  I'm looking forward to trying more items from Pixi Beauty.
(Polishes were provided by PR.  The opinions expressed are my own honest evaluation.  Please see disclosure statement for more information.)

Jesse's Girl Lip Lock Liquid Glass Lipgloss Swatches and Review

I want to tell you about a girl I knew in high school named Lisa. I was older than her by a couple of years and I remember when I first met her as a freshman.  She was all elbows and knees and just tiny! She was so much shorter than I was and what I remember most was how gangly she looked as a youngster running and skiing.  Lisa later made a name for herself as a leader in women's running events around town.  I remember a couple years ago my shock at seeing interviews on the news where it was announced that Lisa was fighting breast cancer.  She was wearing a tell-tale scarf on her head and talking of her determination to beat this disease.

It showed me that you can be in the best of shape, literally at the top of your game physically, and breast cancer can still reside in your body.  This disease doesn't play fair; it knows no bounds.  It strikes men and women; the fit and unfit.  It has no regard for race or religion.  It is a terror that every woman fears and many men and women know first hand.  It wounds bodies, spirits and families.  And this is why we fight and fight to win.  This is why we bring awareness to this disease.  We need better treatments.  We need support for patients and families for physical, spiritual, emotional and financial needs.  We fight like girls, and we fight to win.  Never give up.  Never surrender.

Today's pink offering is Jesse's Girl Cosmetics Liquid Glass Lipgloss in the color Lip Lock.

Jesse's Girl Cosmetics, Liquid Glass Lipgloss, Lip Lock, swatches

Lip Lock is a baby pink. It's a delicious light pink color with a little shimmer. The lipgloss wears very well and tastes a little like vanilla. I really like it. This gloss was given to me by the company during Cosmoprof LV 2012.  It's a great color and I like the gloss formula so well that I had to hunt down a Rite Aid while I was across the country so that I could purchase a few more.

Can I say one more time that I really love these glosses? I need someone in my area to carry Jesse's Girl!!  (I'm looking at YOU, Fred Meyer!!)

Be sure to visit them online, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Jesse's Girl Cosmetics Liquid Glass lipglosses retail for approximately $3.99, which is a bargain for the quality!!

Do you remember when I told you about receiving these products?  If not, please check out my previous post for review.  The winner of this giveaway will receive a coupon that is good for the Renewing line plus shipping.

Own Skin Care

From their website: "Through our innovative formulations, Own Anti-Aging products are clinically proven to enhance collagen levels, strengthen the skin barrier to retain more moisture and, most importantly, increase the skin’s metabolism to produce newer skin cells for softer, smoother, and genuinely younger-looking healthy skin."

Own has an amazing skin care App that will analyze your pictures and recommend what you need. It's free and worth a try. It's actually pretty fun to use.

This giveaway is provided by Own Products and is open to US entrants only. You must leave a blog post with your favorite skincare tip. I'm going to start by giving you mine. ALWAYS take your makeup off before bed. Don't go to sleep with dirty skin. Overnight is when your skin regenerates and is most ready to drink in nutrients. You don't want it ingesting dirty makeup when the skin is trying to revive itself.

As a bonus, I'm going to give you another tip. Start using neck cream yesterday. I didn't start until this past year, which is about 25 years too late. I didn't realize how crummy the look of your neck can get if you don't take care of it like you do your face. So start now, if you're not already doing it.

I'm pretty excited that it's time to start bringing you cosmetic holiday information. I can't wait to do holiday makeup and nail looks and explore what is coming out for the season. Oh boy!! I mean, like I seriously can't wait!!!

Sation is one of my favorite polish brands so I want to share a press release with you of what they have coming out this year. Whoever names their polishes has the best job in the whole world. I always love to read their names. My favorites from the PR picture are Let's Mingle & Jingle and Holiday Golightly, Feliz Navi-doll and Stop Scrooging Around.  *drool*

Happy “Holiday Golightly” From Miss

Holidays are a time for all things fabulous: parties, presents, and polish! Miss Professional Nail is ringing in the season with “Holiday Golightly,” a shimmering new collection of nail lacquers. These six sparklers are a great idea for fun stocking stuffers and to accessorize your New Year’s Eve look!

Miss’ Creative Director Staci Dao wanted to celebrate the joy of gift-giving (and receiving!) by reminding us to pamper ourselves and our loved ones this season. Silver screen icon Audrey Hepburn captured our hearts playing free-spirited fashionista Holly Golightly, whose love of shiny gems helped inspire Miss in creating this wish list of winter stunners.

From the timeless, Tiffany-inspired blue to unique reds and greens, these luxe shades will light up your holiday season: “Under the Miss-letoe,” a pearlescent pine green; “Feliz Navi-doll,” an icy crystalline grayish-white; “I Love Yule,” a velvety poinsettia red; “Let’s Mingle & Jingle,” a silver-spangled sapphire blue; “Holiday Golightly,” a glistening Robin’s egg blue, and “Stop Scrooging Around,” a gold-sparkled ruby wine. ‘Tis the season to channel our inner Holly Golightly and embrace the Miss mantra that “It’s the little pleasures that count…”

If you don’t the find the Holiday Collection under your tree, it will also be available online and in beauty supplies in late October.

All Miss products are free of DBP, toluene and formaldehyde.

Miss is an MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) certified company.

How about you....what sounds good to you from this grouping?

Layla Cosmetics Changing Cherry Nail Polish Review and Swatches

Today we're going to continue our Fight Like A Girl; Fight To Win series with a story about my grandparents. It was in the 1950's that my grandfather got breast cancer. "Yes, doctor, I did say grandFATHER." I don't know the kind of treatment he had then. My family isn't very good about passing along medical history but I do know that when I was 12, my grandfather, who was never without a t-shirt, had to change his shirt in front of me after an incident where he saved a girl from drowning. I understood so many things in that moment. I was shocked to realize that a mastectomy didn't just remove this excess tissue that grows and provides curves and terrain for our chests, it removes layers of flesh that expose every bit of every rib from the collarbone down. My grandfather was a very proud man and I know his perpetual t-shirt was a sign that he was embarassed by his disfigurement. What I didn't know until then was how sunken and strange it looks to see all the ribs, not just the few at the bottom where they end to shape our waists. From that moment, I understood what it will look like when someone I know needs to undergo this surgery.

My grandfather went on to live another 50 years without reocurrance. A couple months after he died, my grandmother, who had a long history of neglecting her own medical care, found that she had breast cancer, and oddly enough, in the same location as my grandfather a half century earlier. She died a few years later of a broken heart, never having recovered from losing her husband. This story shows you that ANYONE can get breast cancer, and while it's rare in men, it does happen. Something to be aware of.

Layla Cosmetics, Nail Polish, Ceramic Effect, Ninja Polish

Ok, so remember when I was telling you that I received this gift from Ninja Polish?  Today I have swatches for you of the Layla Cosmetics Ceramic Effect nail polish CE-65 Changing Cherry.  This color is a fantastic hot pink with blue-violet and hot fuchsia shimmers.

Layla nail polishes are so smooth!! You don't need to use base coat with them if you don't want; they don't stain the nails. I applied two layers of polish and a top coat in the pictures. Look very closely and you can see the shimmers.

OPI Spotted Top Coat Swatches and Review

Have you heard about OPI Spotted? So far, it's only available in Europe and I really don't know if it's going to be sold across the pond. My guess would the that it will at some point. It runs about $20 USD with the monetary conversions. Spotted is a top coat or overcoat kind of thing only available so far in black.

OPI, Spotted, nail polish

It's very runny. If you pick this up, you have to experiment with it to find the best way to use it. I've found that using it as thinly as possible is best and it's difficult to get a uniform application. OPI Spotted reacts a lot like oil on water in the way that it separates from the undercoat. It mimics those spots of oil that you see in the driveway when a car drips.

OPI Spotted, nail polish, swatches

During my first use, I applied it a little thicker, thinking it would be kind of like crackle. I quickly found that thick wasn't the best way but I really liked how it looked anyway. With this application, it looked a lot like some fancy lingerie to me....like black lace over the magenta polish. I wore it around for about a week with no problem with a coat of Seche Vite over the top.

OPI, nail polish, Spotted, swatches, black

Opi nail polish, Spotted, top coat, swatches

The second time I tried it, I applied it a little thinner and it definitely gave a spotted type of look. No more lacy lingerie.

OPI Spotted, nail polish, swatches

The third time I used it, I got a real surprise!! This look and color combination would be awesome for a Halloween manicure.

OPI Spotted, top coat, nail polish, swatches, Venique nail lacquer

I was so surprised as the nails spotted and then one by one cracks formed. It was completely unexpected and I really liked it.

This was a fun top coat to play with. Layla Cosmetics has something similar in Europe called Bubbles and it comes in multiple colors. I really don't know if and when either will be released in North America but they are a fun and different way to do nail art.
