Hard Candy Glitterazi Fire Flash Nail Polish Swatches and Review

My review of Hard Candy Fire Flash nail polish from the Glitterazi Collection actually begins with a look at Piece of Papaya from the Itsy Glitzy Collection. I reviewed Piece Of Papaya on Prime Beauty as part of Cindy's Frugal Friday Series. It's a duochrome nail polish that flashes from pink to orange depending on where the light hits it. It has plenty of golden particles that give it a lot of personality.

Quickly, it looks like this:

Hard Candy Piece Of Papaya photo 100.jpg

I saved my best pictures for the Prime Beauty review so check that out. The first time I started to swatch Fire Flash on one finger, I thought it was going on a little thin, so I decided to wear Piece of Papaya for a few days and then layer Fire Flash over it.

By the way, these are the three Hard Candy nail lacquers that I picked up while at Wal Mart.  From left to right, they are Piece Of Papaya, Birthday Bash from the Crystal Confetti Collection, and Fire Flash.

Hard Candy Nail Polish photo fb2d4bab-c67c-43e4-8419-ee9d903b1b28.jpg

You can see how Piece of Papaya and Fire Flash have complimentary tones. Fire Flash is full of copper glitter with random hot pink glitters thrown about. It's hard to photograph. I liked it a lot better in person than I do in the pictures. I feel like it's hard to see the pink glitters in the pictures but I could see them more clearly in person.

The first picture was Fire Flash with nothing over it and the next is top coated with Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

The new Hard Candy nail polish collection is many collections in one. They retail for around $4 each. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $4.49 each. You can also follow Hard Candy on FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest.
Have you picked up any of the new Hard Candy nail polishes yet?  If so, which ones?

Giorgio Armani 08 Parma Eyes To Kill Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and Review

Today I want to show you an eyeshadow palette by Armani that has a purple theme. It's the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Eyeshadow Palette in the color 08 - Parma, ($59 USD).

Giorgio Armani, Parma, 08, Eyes To Kill, Eyeshadow palette, Swatches, Review

The palette is housed in a shiny black plastic in a circular shape. It's hard to describe but the top and bottom are kind of offset from each other, making somewhat of an oval type shape between the two. That's not really super important but the formula of the eyeshadows is.

From the Armani website: "The Giorgio Armani Laboratories have developed a new formula that reconciles high color saturation with a matte finish by using a coating of soft-touch powders. This technology makes it possible to use an exceptionally high percentage of pure pigments for ever more intense, ultra-saturated color."

My take is that these quads are long wearing, non-creasing smooth eyeshadows. Most of them have a combination of satin and matte colors. In the Parma quad, the deep purple is matte, the purple-taupe is satin, the pink is a satin and the light white-violet is a lightly frosted color.

Giorgio Armani Parma eyeshadow, swatches, Eyes To Kill

I found this particular quad to have lighter colors than the brown ones I have, 2 and 6. I used the purple color wet to try to boost it a little and it was still a lighter eye look than I'm really used to. Maybe I wear too much makeup. ;) I would recommend this quad for daytime and office type of looks but if you want a nighttime going out type of smoky purple, you'll need to bring another deeper purple into the mix. Having said that, all four colors are soft and smooth in application. I wore this look all day and evening and experienced no creasing at all. The colors seemlessly blend into each other and complement each other very well.

Here's some shots of the quad in use:

The Armani Eyes To Kill Palettes are so smooth, I feel the need to tell you that you have to have at least one to have a dream-like eyeshadow experience. They are formulated so very well; there's no creasing and they feel smooth when you use them. Four shades, two applicators and a mirrored lid are what you'll receive for $59 USD. You can purchase them on Nordstrom.com or the Giorgio Armani website.
Have you tried any of the Eyes To Kill Palettes?  Which is your favorite?

Nail It! Magazine Premiere Issue Review

A couple of months ago, I brought you a press release for Nail It! Magazine, the first-ever consumer fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazine that’s all about nails; covering nail art, celebrity styles, tips for nail health and wellness, and the latest trends and products. Now that I've had a chance to read it cover to cover, I want to tell you a little more about what's inside.

    There are nail "how to's".

    Contests to enter.

There are ads for every new kind of nail polish, accessory and color story.  I particularly enjoy the ads as they expose me to brands I might not otherwise have heard of.  I admit it, I studied commercial art briefly and being a color fiend, layout, color and style just appeal to me in a big way.  Ads are also like market research for my blog.

In this premiere issue, an ad for Kiss Nail Dress had stickers with it!!  How fun is that?

In addition to nails, there are articles featuring hair, makeup and fashion.

There are articles that cover trending topics and things that your average "nailphile" will be interested in.

The premiere issue of Nail It! Magazine is released for March and April 2013.  On the front, it's touted as Spring Nail Trends.  The magazine has 130 pages between the covers.  It is an easy read, and I found it to be enjoyable.  I look forward to watching it progress as the magazine grows.

Nail It! is $5.99 on the store shelf or you can order a year for $11.95 by clicking the link.  You can also follow Nail It! on FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest.

Have you picked up your copy yet?  Be sure to check inside to make sure your free nail decals are there.  Someone helped themselves to the stickers from my friend's magazine.  Booo!

(The premiere issue of Nail It! was provided for consideration by PR.  All opinions expressed are my own honest evaluation.  Links provided for your ease of use and are not affiliate links.)

Burberry Smokey Grey Complete Eye Palette Swatches and Review

Burberry Smokey Grey Complete Eye Palette is my favorite of the Burberry quads that I've used so far. I find that it is very easy to use and it can go from the office to an evening out with the ease of a brush. The colors are universal and will work for everyone. The micronized pigments are the smoothest of the quads that I've reviewed to this point. (Dark Spice and Pale Nude have been reviewed so far.)  I believe this one truly is for everyone.

Burberry Smokey Grey, Complete Eyeshadow, Palette, swatches, review

    Swatches:

Burberry Smokey Grey Complete Eye Palette swatches, eyeshadow,

The Burberry Smokey Grey Complete Eye Palette contains a cool toned shimmering white, a shimmering gunmetal grey, a matte mid-toned grey, and a soft black with a satin finish.  The shadows are long-wearing and last all day without creasing.  The black shade makes an awesome liner when applied with the accompanying angled brush that comes with each palette. I've stated in my other reviews that this mini angled brush is the best shadow lining brush I've ever used.

    Burberry_Complete_Eye_Palette, makeup brushes

The palette and brushes come in a nice velveteen pouch with the traditional Burberry plaid embossed on the outside, which also matches the outside of the metal palette.

    Burberry_Complete_Eye_Palette_brushes

The palette is strong and sturdy and feels good to hold in your hand. It has a good weight to it while looking upscale and protecting your precious shadows.

    Burberry_Complete_Eye_Palette_

You can literally wear this eye palette with anything. It has warm and cool tones in it which will work with whatever blush and lip scheme you choose for the day or evening. I can't recommend this one enough. When I was debating whether to get this one or the similar Maestro quad by Georgio Armani, I chose this one, even though I was able to swatch the Armani in person. I just felt the colors of this quad were more universal and able to be used in such a variety of ways and depths that this is an excellent value for the money. And, again, I think that the colors in the Smokey Grey Complete Eye Palette will work for every skintone.

You can find this palette, with four shadows, a fully mirrored top and three mini brushes, for $59 wherever Burberry Beauty is sold. I purchased mine at Nordstrom.  I really don't know if any other major department stores sell them.  This one is definitely an eye quad to have!
Have you tried any of the Burberry Complete Eye Palettes?  What do you think?  What's your favorite smokey palette?

Exciting New Nail Art Comes To Claire's!!

If you want to be at the most up and coming place for nail art, head straight to Claire's! Best known for selling all kinds of accessories at affordable prices, Claire's has now entered the nail industry with every trend you can imagine. I received a press release at the end of New York Fashion Week that suggested how to duplicate some runway nail trends with items from Claire's. This peaked my interest, so I had to go to the store to investigate, like any good beauty blogger would. First I want to show you what I received in my email and then we'll talk about what I saw in person.

"Here are some easy and affordable tips to re-create this season’s hottest nail trends with the latest products from Claire’s! From the fun, yet classic black and white polka dot nails as seen at Kate Spade to Rachel Antonoff’s funky script nails, Claire’s offers simple one-step solutions to get both looks for under $10. For the DIY lovers, achieve the nails seen on Behnaz Sarafpour’s and 3.1 Philip Lim’s runways with a variety of nail polishes and nail art pens from Claire’s."

    Kate Spade:

    Rachel Antonoff

I found a bazillion new and interesting nail items at Claire's. With a husband waiting in the wings, I decided to keep my purchases to just two items, but it was very hard! Here's some of the things that I saw while I was there.

    Awesome pieces for nail art.

    Claires, nail art, studs, beads

    Claire's Nail Art photo 120.jpg

Claire's has complete sets to make caviar nail manicures, called nail pearls, for about $12.00.  TThe individual bottles of the pearls only retail for $8.50.

Claire's Caviar Bead Nail Art, nail beads

Claire's Nail Pearls, nail art, nail polish

There are all different kinds of airbrush painted press on nails.

Claire's Press On Nails photo 124.jpg

Lots of nail stickers. I have the following similar stickers from Kiss Nails. Claire's are slightly cheaper.

    Claire's Nail Stickers photo 125.jpg

In addition to nail polishes and nail art pens, Claire's has gel-like nail polishes. I'm starting to see these similar type of polishes from department store and drugstore companies. They're becoming all the rage.

    Claire's Gel Polish photo 126.jpg

There were so many more items, but I just couldn't take pictures of them all on a super packed Saturday afternoon. Here are the two items I brought home with me. For $10.00, I purchased a stamping kit. I think it's time I learned because I love looking at stamped patterns online but haven't tried it yet. So now I have to tools!!

Claire's Nail Art Kit, nail stamping art kit, nail polish

And I just couldn't resist these little mustache nail stickers, for just $3.50.

Claire's Nail Art Stickers photo 015.jpg

The nail art and polish items I saw at Claire's are completely on trend and every popular style of nails that you can imagine are currently respresented.  You can view the full nail line on the Claire's website.
Have you checked out Claire's for nail items lately? What did you think?

Sation Candylandia Unicorns Are Teal Nail Polish Swatches And Review

So I was away for a little while fooling around with my friends, and when I came home, I found some nail mail from Miss Professional Nail that had six cool Sation nail polishes in it!!  Two of the colors are from the Candylandia collection. Woo Hoo!!  I immediately Instagrammed the picture.

    Sation Nail Polish, Candylandia, swatches

Unicorns Are Teal is the second bottle from the right and it's what we're going to be looking at today. The bottle on the far left is Lollipop Goes The Princess. It's right in line with the pastels for Spring 2013 and I'm excited to use it next.

Sation Unicorns are Teal nail polish

Sation nail polishes have a nice wide pro brush that easily covers the nail bed in three quick strokes. Unicorns Are Teal was a nice opaque jelly finish. I had complete coverage in just two coats. I found it really difficult to photograph, tho, because in my photo tent, my camera wanted to pick up the blue tones more than the green, negating the green tinge to the teal.

An instagrammed iphone picture captures the color most accurately.

Sation Unicorns Are Teal nail polish, swatch

And my best attempt in my light box with studio lighting.

Sation nail polish, Unicorns Are Teal, swatch

I love this color. It's perfect for spring and summer and into fall. I got quite a few compliments on it. You can find Sation on the Miss Professional Nail website, as well as TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Winners in Canada.  You can also follow them on Twitter, and Facebook.

I've been having some trouble with my editing program, ok a LOT of trouble, making it difficult for me to post as regularly as usual.  I hope this is all worked out soon.  In the meantime, you can follow me on Instagram for my pre-blog pictures.

What nail themes are you most excited for this spring?

(Nail polishes pictured were a gift from the company.  This in no way affects my review, which contains my own honest evaluation and opinions.  Please see my disclosure policy for more information.)

A Lovely Frankenpolish From Franken Femme

You know about frankenpolish, right? It's a term coined by nail polish fanatics that refers to mixing up a polish by oneself. Well, today I have just such a frankenpolish made by a fellow blogger, Becca, of Franken Femme.  Becca mixes up nail polishes at home and her website contains tips on learning to make your own nail polish.  She doesn't sell her polishes, but boy oh boy, judging by the one she sent me, I think maybe she should!!

I received a lovely dark purpley plum polish that has multiple micro-specs of color in it.  I can see fuchsia, champagne and green with the naked eye.  In the daylight, the polish seems to have a blue sheen in it.  These aren't glitter pieces, per se, but small minute particles that shine when caught by the light.

Instagrammed this picture today while I was out shopping. It's an iphone picture.

Franken Femme frankenpolish swatch, nail polish

The franken Becca made me applied very well. It was fully opaque in two coats and it has a nice smooth finish. I love the deep browned purple color and the interest of the small color bits.

My fancy camera tends to focus on the indiviual color specs and tends to separate colors at close range. The next picture gives you quite a view of the multiple colors in the polish.

frankenpolish, Franken Femme, nail polish, swatch

I really like this color and how smooth the application is.

You can follow Becca's blog here, and follow her on Facebook and Twitter as well.  Don't you just love this color?
