Studio Gear Hydrating CC Color Correction Cream in Natural Swatches and Review

When I was offered the chance to test Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream, I was pretty excited to try it and see how this CC cream actually works.  (CC stands for color correcting).  I received a full sized 1 fl oz, ($34), of the SPF 20 CC Cream in the color of my choice, which was Natural.

The Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream comes in Linen, Natural and Wheat.  I am a light to medium toned person with beige undertones and while my skin is fairly light most of the year, my beigey-ness lends me to usually wear a light-to-medium toned foundation.  I picked the middle color, Natural, and it is a perfect match for me.

Imagine my surprise when I squeezed some product out of the tube and it was WHITE!!!

The CC Cream contains micro-encapsulated pigments which when rubbed on the skin, transform to match each person's own skintone.  I'd love to see the two other colors to see if they would match me in some fashion, too.  I wonder how far the transformation goes.   Below you will see that I began to spread the little dot around on my hand.  At the bottom of the picture, you can see a couple places where the CC cream starts to make the transformation into my skin color.

After rubbing it completely into my skin, you can see that it matches perfectly with a hint of sheen left to give a natural looking finish.

After the product dries a little more, it becomes a little more matte.  It gives a nearly medium coverage and if you have any deeper red spots, you'll still need a concealor to cover them.  Apply daily over your moisturizer, or by itself as needed.  Use alone or under another foundation.  I use this alone.

What They Say:

Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.
Key Benefits:
  • Protects:  SPF 20 protects the skin, while Hydra-Extend technology provides moisture for up to 72 hours.
  • Perfects:  Enjoy natural looking coverage while micro-encapsulated pigments perfects and fade dark spots and acne scarring.
  • Corrects:  Anti-aging and collagen building ingredients help minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Hydrates:  Hydra-Extend technology provides up to 72 hours of continuous hydration.
  • Conceals:  Micro encapsulated pigments deliver a fresh dose of color that adapts to your own skin tone, creating the most natural looking coverage.
  • Smoothes:  Skin nourishing ingredients help to correct and maintain youthful complexion.

My Evaluation:

I really like this CC Cream.  Really.  I'll be repurchasing once I am done with this one.

The idea behind BB and CC creams is that when you use them in the long term, they are supposed to nourish and brighten skin, evening the complexion to provide a more youthful look.  I have only had this about a week, so I can't attest to the long wear properties but I do know that I like the finish and the coverage and look forward to seeing what the long term effects are.

  1. I've really enjoyed all the reviews I've seen on this product. What a neat CC cream! I want to try it!

  2. I was very impressed with this product. I find it so interesting how different skin tones even if dramatically different have been able to use the same - I also used natural and it worked well for me. I think I may test out a darker one should I decide to continue use and see how it fairs. ;)

  3. So far I have no luck w/ some CC creams I've tried. While they do match my skin tone after rubbing, they oxidize big time on me. Hopefully this brand will change the way I look at CC.

    1. Ah man, that's a drag. Have you tried a light colorless powder, maybe to set it? I'm not sure that would even work, just curious.

  4. That does look hydrating!! My faves are from Clinique & IT Cosmetics. I need that coverage, girl!

  5. Sounds great! I have so far used only BB creams, but I already have some CC creams in my wihslist and I think will be adding this one in my list, too.

    1. I've mainly tried BB creams also. This is my first CC cream. I approached it with trepidation as my BB experiences were mixed, but mainly negative.

  7. I haven't had real luck with CC Creams. The IT Cosmetics one is almost a great match for my skintone, but once summer hits, it will not work.

Does this one come in other shades?

    1. Yes, two other shades. This one is the one right in the middle. Check their website for an idea of the other colors. I know quite a few bloggers have tried this so I'm sure you'll find at least one of each color.

    1. I know, right? It helps the dumb things you did as a kid and provides what you've learned as an adult that your skin needs. The best of both worlds!!

  12. this CC cream looks like a good one. Unfortunately it has a chemical sunscreen so it's a no go for me.

    1. Darn. I bet you run into that a lot these days, don't you? Do you have to stick to mineral sunscreen?

  13. I'm always intrigued by products that go on one color but dry clear. I haven't tried the Studio Gear CC cream but it may need to get added to the list!

    1. Yes! For me, I am always running after the glow. I have dry skin and live in a dry climate, so I'm all over anything with a little glow!

    1. I'm not sure if I saw your review but I'll have to go look for it. I'm pretty sure I could pull off the linen too.

  19. I was sent this a few months back in "Natural" and despite the self adjusting pigment it was still a tad to yellow and dark for me.

    1. It sounds like Linen would be best for you. It's so hard to color match over a computer. I was torn between Liben and Natural but I know that my undertones pull me into a medium color of foundation. I'm pretty sure I could have worn either.

    1. Was it enough with a little concealor here and there? That's how it worked for me as I'm still healing those dumb blisters but if I didn't have those, this would be enough for me.

  23. I have tested out previously and love it, but can't wait to see if it holds up to the weather during the summer

    1. Oooooooh. Where do you live? Our Alaskan summer doesn't force a change of foundation. Sometimes I forget in other areas people have to change foundations and moisturizers seasonally.
