Tarte Cosmetics Goddess Glow Holiday 17 Highlighter Extravaganza

Yes, it's a highlighting extravaganza today!!!  I have something to show you that I purchased at the Sephora VIB Rouge Holiday Preview event.    I've already talked about the Fenty products that I purchased on youtube where I also introduced this piece of hot Tarte fire.  There are swatches and thoughts in the Fenty video linked and well as my video dedicated to the Tarte Goddess Glow Highlighter itself.  The highlighter has .42 gm of product for $35.  As of this writing it is available at Sephora and Tarte's website.  Tarte is a cruelty free vegan company.

The etching in the highlighter is to be remniscent of the tile work in Morocco.  I think they nailed it!!  I've used it five or six times already and the pattern is still well intact.  It'll take awhile to ruin the pattern with use.   There is a full mirror in this oversized compact.

The overall color is a delicate champagne beige with micro sparkles.  I think it swatches best in the video so if you'd like to see the swatches please watch the video.  I have some thoughts and tips there too.

I'm loving wearing this with all my tanks and cold shoulder tops.  It would be brilliant on the body during holiday season as well.  The teeny golden micro shimmers stay where you brush them on and don't fall off flaking all over.  It's a really well done highlighter.

Are you curious to see what else Tarte has coming out for holiday?  ME TOO!!!  I know there will be tons of stuff, Ulta Exclusives, Sephora Exclusives.  I'm getting curious!

You can follow Tarte Cosmetics on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest.  What do you think about this lovely?  What kind of makeup are you looking forward to this holiday season?

LORAC Unzipped Desert Sunset And Ocean Sunset Palette Swatches and Review

Lorac Cosmetics issued a new series of three Unzipped palettes with different sunset themed locations this summer.  I'm a sunset chaser and there are no more beautiful sunsets than here in the desert.  The horizon begins with a golden color.

It morphes into orange and pink and finishes off with the most gorgeous purple.

Desert Sunset was the natural choice for me to pick up.  I really adore the colors and especially together as a group.  The unzipped sunset series retails for $42 each for 10 beautiful shades but I see that they're ON SALE at Kohls for $36.99.

The outer construction of the palettes is really cool.  They each have a unique wash of  colors  that mirror the shadow hues inside.  The top has a construction that looks like the rays of the sun and it can fold back from the corner to open.  I seem to lack the words to describe it but if you grab the lower right corner, the top sort of folds back with the rays acting as joints in the lid.  It's a unique construction with a strong magnetic closure.  There is no mirror on the inside, keeping the weight to a very comfortable level while adding to the travel functionality.  The palettes are quite slim, pleasing to hold and store and made in the USA.

The Desert Sunset palette has four mattes and six shimmering shades.  I was particularly pulled in by the pinks and purples. The pink tones, (the lighter is shimmer and the darker is a matte), are outstanding and my favorites in the palette.  These hues are a predominant part of the nightly desert sunsets.  I was particularly pulled in by the pinks and purples.  The color scheme is something I look at nearly every night while marveling at it's beauty.  I couldn't forget this palette.  It was in my mind daily until I purchased it and wore it.  It will be in my top shadow palettes of 2017 for sure.

When I first used the palette, I fell in love but was a little disappointed in the purple.  It seemed to have such light pigmentation that it didn't live up to my expectations.  At first.  I kept working with it and found that once I had broken the surface of the shade, it applied with a fuller coverage.  And now I'm thrilled with it.  The mattes kick up in the pan but I have no issues with fallout on the face at all.

I did a video review of these palettes which I'll link below.  In the review, I show how I load my shadow brush and it could be the way that I do it is responsible for not having fallout on my face.  I don't really know.  I've been working with pigments in various forms and mediums for so long that this is my technique.

Also in my review is my stated love for plastic inserts.  I see so many people rant about plastic inserts but if you watch the video, you'll see my love for plastic inserts and why they are a key part of my preferred form of shadow application.  I am wearing the Desert Sunset palette on my eyes in the video.

The Ocean Sunset palette is a brilliant companion to Desert Sunset.  The colors are a little bit muted in comparison and there are 5 mattes and 5 shimmers.  See if you think they go together well also.

As of this writing, I've used the Ocean Sunset palette once.  I've only had it a couple of weeks, but again, I'm really impressed with the pigmentation.  The deep eggplant shimmer and the dark blurple matte are my favorites so far in this palette.  The shimmering seafoam looses much of it's color on my skin, which absorbs green, and shows mainly as a cool golden shimmer.  It may show up true seafoam on you.

The third palette, which I don't have, is Mountain Sunset.  It has some purpley colors that remind me of the color the sunset reflects of the mountains in winter in my hometown in Alaska.  As a blogger, I'm finding it difficult not to be able to report on all three palettes.  I'm sure the quality is the same as the others, but I couldn't swear to it since I don't have it, you know?

Lorac is a makeup artist owned and created cosmetics line.  It is sold at Kohls, Ulta, and their online website.  You can follow LORAC on FacebookTwitter, youtube, Pinterest, and Instagram.

Have you picked up any of the LORAC Unzipped Sunset series eyeshadow palettes?  Which appeals to you most?

Luv Out Loud With NYX Professional Cosmetics Matte Lipstick! Ulta Exclusive

Cruelty-free brand NYX Professional Makeup, (known as NYX Cosmetics until now), has released six creamy matte liquid lipsticks in the Luv Out Loud collection,  The names are inspiring, motivating and capture a feel that NYX embodies.  Each liquid lipstick is just $6.99 and available exclusively at Ulta Beauty.  I filmed a video with swatches, describing the colors and wear and it is linked below.  It's about 3 minutes, so it's a quickie, and I've snagged swatch pictures off of it to share with you here.

The wear of the collection is really nice and long lasting.  I would guess the reason they call them creamy matte is because they have the comfort of a cream with the wear of a matte.  You can wear them through eating and drinking with minimal damage unless you eat something oily, as with any longwear.  I don't experience the flaking or pilling while they wear that I do with some brands.  There is no transfer with the Luv Out Loud liquid lipsticks and they do dry completely down.  The applicator is just perfect because you can do your lips, including touching up the edges and fussing over it all, with just one dip into the tube.  There's just no need to double dip.  My only question is that if NYX can do such a terrific formula and retail for only $6.99, why aren't other brands?

If it looks like I was talking in the swatches, umm, yeah, video so yeah I was.  :)

NYX sent the products free of charge for me to enjoy as well as the tshirt I was wearing.  You can probably tell I was feeling all kinds of somethin' somethin' wearing them and the shirt.  My tshirt says Confident, which is the first color of the set and it is a peachy nude matte.  I normally would wear a light color like this with a liner but for the purposes of showing the actual color, I wore all the shades without.  I wear colors like Confident practically on the daily.

Confident, matte

Going from lighter to darker, the second color would be Brilliant.  This is the kind of color that I wear often, a nice mauvey rose.  I think the whole collection is perfect to roll into fall and through the winter.  My eyes look a little crazy in the pictures, but again, I was talking to the camera and I am very facially expressive.

matte, Brilliant

Extraordinary is a violet toned fuchsia.  It is my perfect fuchsia color and one of my favorite lip colors to wear after nude tones like Confident and Brilliant.  It goes so well with the Lorac Unzipped Desert Sunset palette that I was wearing on the eyes and with my hair.  Win, win!

matte, Extraordinary

The fourth shade is called Fearless and I think you must be when wearing this color.  It is a dusty lavender.  I was smiling because I couldn't believe that these apply so perfectly and on camera even!!

matte, Fearless

Passionate had me feeling it!!  The tube looked a bit different than the color did when I applied it so it was like my eyes were going to bug out because I love it so much.  It is a gorgeous deep purpley wine.

matte, Passionate

Getting ramped up with attitude!

matte, Passionate

And totally feeling this color, which I misjudged by the tube.

matte, Passionate

And the sixth color is Brave, a bold deep purple.

matte, Brave

Yassss, girl!  I love it!

matte, Brave

swatches

This is a fun very wearable collection of matte liquid lipsticks.  I'm enjoying them and I even surprised myself with how much I love the deep colors.  They're like the perfect tones for me.  You can follow NYX Professional Cosmetics on youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest.

If you'd like to hear just a few more thoughts and see the products in action, please check out my video, and I'd love if you subscribed and/or thumbs up.

Do you see anything you think you might like?  Are you ready to jump into fall and fall colors?  Did you know NYX recently updated the brand name?

FENTY Beauty Match Stix Matte and Shimmer Skinstick Reviews on Dry Skin

Today I have my thoughts on some Fenty Beauty products that I purchased at Sephora.  Fenty Beauty is a new makeup line curated by singer/songwriter Rihanna.  It's had tons of buzz, particularly regarding the extended color choices for foundation - 40 shades!  I've included my youtube Get Ready With Me using the products for the first time and you can watch that to see what my immediate thoughts were.  My video also includes a couple of items that were released in the VIB presale for Holiday 2017 that I picked up during the event.   I have a few more thoughts and swatches below from wearing the products for just the few days I've had them and I've decided to break up the items into different categories because this is getting hella long.

I wasn't one of the people who were at the computer at launch time.  I actually wasn't interested in the line at all but the day after it came out, I was in Sephora for the Holiday Preview and figured I might take a look.  The counter was mobbed as people were much more interested in Fenty than in the limited holiday items on the Sephora shelves.  I knew there were supposed to be contour sticks and that there might be some cool shades, so I started there.

The Match Stix, (.30 0z / $25), whether matte or shimmering, are pretty interesting.  The shape is a six sided hexagon which is magnetized so that you can store them all together.  I think it is a great price for the amount and quality of what you get.

contour, matte, skinshimmer, highlighter

The Matte Match Stix that I chose was Truffle, a neutral deep tone.  I like deep toned contours because they're usually more cool toned than lighter shades.  I buff them out and it works for me!  Even when I'm at my fairest.  For me, a good contour is all about the undertone, not necessarily the depth of color.  The other shade I looked at was Mocha, a deeper cool tone.  I like to go to Sephora with just concealer and foundation so that I can try things on and Truffle seemed just a little bit better for me.  It is on the left in the picture.

matte, shimmer, unicorn, contour, highlighter

The two Matte Stix Shimmer Skinsticks that caught my eye were Starstruck, (a pearl champagne with teensy weensy tone on tone micro-shimmers, pictured in the middle), and Confetti, (a pink toned violet iridescence with violet glitter particles, pictured on the top).  I couldn't help but be captivated by these as they have what I feel is the perfect consistancy.  A lot of creamy stick type cheek products can be rather greasy feeling to me and these go from a cream stick to dry down with perfection, in my book.

I've applied them from the applicator, tapped on with my fingers, and with a brush and my experience is that they blend like a dream no matter my application method.  They dry quickly, but not so quick that you can't finish blending one side of your face at a time.  In other words, when I apply my contour, I do half of my face and blend it before it dries down and then continue by applying the other side, etc.  I think there is a risk with the Matte Match Stix that if you applied it all over the face before you blend, it could begin to get too dry before you finish.

I haven't had any issues with fallout from Confetti yet so I can't say if that will happen or not.  I wore it once over my foundation, once as a blend with Starstruck and once with powder highlighter over it.  I compared Starstruck to Wet N Wild and Maybelline highlighting sticks that I have and, again, I prefer the drier consistancy for a much truer color when worn.  I don't really like the greasy feeling sticks, even though I've used them.  I definitely prefer a quicker drying cream or liquid highlighter like the Fenty or Cover FX illuminating drops.

I've swatched the three sticks heavily in the picture, 3x each in hopes that you can see the tones better.

Here is a picture in Sephora where I swatched all the Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks together, 1x each.  Starstruck is third from the bottom and Confetti is the 7th shade from the bottom.   The bluer toned violet is called Unicorn and boy oh boy does the Sephora website have that shade looking wrong!  Sometime when I'm in Sephora, I'm going to try that delicious papaya shade second from bottom, and the peach directly under Unicorn.  I was going to try to name the shades but I'd probably get it all wrong.  :/

The quality of the Match Stix exceeded my expectations and I was surprised at what I felt was a low price point for a celebrity endorsed line.  I'm really happy with those choices.  You can also purchase them in collated three piece trio sets which have a matte concealer stick, a matte contour and a highlighter for $54 instead of the $75 that they cost individually.  The come in sets based on skintone range; i.e. light, medium, tan and deep.

Before we part for today, I want to share with you my subsequent thoughts on the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Lipgloss.  The gloss is described as a universal shade and I'd agree with that.  It is a sheer toned caramel that tastes like caramel.  It is shiny but honestly, I was disappointed in it.  It didn't give the wet glass glossy shine that I'd seen on Instagram and Snapchat from people who attended the launch party.  Granted, the lighting at the launch event was maximized to make the products pop and glow, but still, I was disappointed in the amount of shine.  It's $18 which is decent for a mid end Sephora brand, but I expected a really high shine and I didn't get one.  The gloss is a pass for me but I totally get how people might love it.  I have swatches of the gloss in the video.

If you want to see my initial thoughts on first application, feel free to watch the video.  You'll see what the colors look like on me as well.   Thanks for viewing. Please subscribe and thumbs up my channel if you happen to wander over to youtube.

TooFaced X Kandee Johnson I Want Kandee Full Collection Review Plus Giveaway

Today's post features a full review on youtube of the TooFaced X Kandee Johnson I Want Kandee Collection, a limited edition group of products now available at Ulta Beauty.  There is a giveaway at the end of the video as well and will be linked below, and also some swatches for you.  I hope you enjoy the review.  Good luck to everyone who enters!

TooFaced X Kandee Johnson I Want Kandee Candy Eyes eyeshadow palette

The Melted Matte liquid lipsticks in this collection are absolutely gorgeous!  They are all quite wearable colors for me.

I don't have swatches of the banana powder, but I do have swatches of the Kandee Glow Luminizer, (probably my favorite item in the collection), both as a heavy swatch and blended out.

I find this collection to be one of the most wearable across all items that I've seen in a long time.  My complete thoughts are listed in the video.  The eyeliner is really cool and I'm currently trying to decide if I prefer it to others.  The more I have used it, the more I have loved it.

It's A TooFaced Faceoff! I Want Kandee Candy Eyes VS Natural Love Palettes

I've got a video on my youtube channel that you might want to check out if you're thinking about purchasing the new TooFaced Cosmetics X Kandee Johnson I Want Kandee Candy Eyes palette.  Phew, that was a mouthful.  If you already have the Natural Love palette, also by TooFaced, you might wonder how some of the shades compare.  My video is a comparison of the two palettes as well as some of my thoughts about both.  I hope you'll enjoy it.

The I Want Kandee collection is an Ulta Beauty exclusive.  I heard Too Faced anticipated a sellout within a month with no plans for replenishment.  I am wearing the Candy Eyes palette in my video.

As of this writing, I am editing my video of the whole collection and will add the link to this post when it is loaded.

Have you looked at the I Want Kandee Collection?  Did you see anything you liked?  I can't wait till my full thoughts are loaded for you. Until then...Be Sweet!!

Bic Gel-ocity And My Pen Pals

I received the Bic Gel-ocity gel pens for free from Smiley360 in exchange for my honest review.  You can join Smiley360 at www.smiley360.com.

Have you ever experienced the fun of having a pen pal?  My first one was a second grade class project.  We exchanged a few letters back and forth over the course of a year.  It was fun and all I really remember was my pen pal asked if I lived in an igloo, a common misconception about Alaska, where I lived at the time.  We learned to write letters and we learned about another part of our country.  We found out things the kids experienced there.  It's fun to learn about other people's lives, their hobbies and traditions in different parts of the world.   The experience of a pen pal can open you to culture across the globe as well as bonding over the things people have in common.

Fast forward to today, where I am blessed to have two pen pals who live in different places.  We began to talk on the internet when we met each other through our love of color, my first true love.  My second love is baseball.  My friends and I met thru color and bonded over baseball and pets.  We keep in touch on the internet and enjoy the tradition of being pen pals, often sending cards and gifts back and forth.

When I received the Bic Gel-ocity quick dry gel pens for testing, I immediately thought of my pen pals.  We all love cool pens...especially gel pens.  And I received three sets; one for me and one for each of them.  It couldn't be more perfect.

I ripped open my pack of three and tested them on one of the coloring pages that came with them.  Honestly, I wasn't expecting very much.  I've been disappointed so many times with gel pens that were dry before I could use them, pens that smeared and pens where the color was too pale to be seen.  The Bic Gel-ocity pens are SO different!!  They are vibrant and dry quickly so that they don't smear on the page!

There are three pens in the set; blue, pink and purple.  These are a joy to write or color with.  If you enjoy the artistic expression of coloring and you love gel pens, these are definitely something you want to check out.  There is a set of 12 that I'm eyeing at Target for just $12.99 and I really feel like I want more colors!!  I generally use different colored pens in my planner to code it and the gels I tried in the past were fails.  Now that I know I can use Bic Gel-ocity with the vibrance and staying power that I need, I want a couple more colors.

Here's some closer pictures to show you the colors.

The pens have a comfortable ergonomic barrel.  I appreciate that so much as the feel is nice and my hand doesn't cramp using them.

I didn't expect to be wow'ed but I really was.  I was thrilled to find gel pens that are dependable for my planner.  The color is strong, they dry quickly, and they're super affordable.  Whether you're journaling, planning, coloring or writing to a friend, you'll want to check out the Bic Gel-ocity.  The performance is very satisfying with these pens.

Having a pen pal has been a fun learning and social exercise for me both as a kid and an adult.  I've learned enough about my pen pals to know they're going to love getting these sets in the mail.  Do you love a good pen?  What are your favorites; gel or traditional ink?  Do you have a pen pal story?

Ipsy August Glam Bag Unboxing - Worth It?

I've been an Ipsy subscriber since the very beginning. I really enjoy receiving my Glam Bag each month and seeing what's in it. They list it on the website, but I enjoy the surprise. Some months are better than others - watch and see what I thought of August 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag.

I had ordered a perk with my points and unfortunately, it never showed up.  Meh.  How'd you like your bag this month?
