Bic Gel-ocity And My Pen Pals

I received the Bic Gel-ocity gel pens for free from Smiley360 in exchange for my honest review.  You can join Smiley360 at www.smiley360.com.

Have you ever experienced the fun of having a pen pal?  My first one was a second grade class project.  We exchanged a few letters back and forth over the course of a year.  It was fun and all I really remember was my pen pal asked if I lived in an igloo, a common misconception about Alaska, where I lived at the time.  We learned to write letters and we learned about another part of our country.  We found out things the kids experienced there.  It's fun to learn about other people's lives, their hobbies and traditions in different parts of the world.   The experience of a pen pal can open you to culture across the globe as well as bonding over the things people have in common.

Fast forward to today, where I am blessed to have two pen pals who live in different places.  We began to talk on the internet when we met each other through our love of color, my first true love.  My second love is baseball.  My friends and I met thru color and bonded over baseball and pets.  We keep in touch on the internet and enjoy the tradition of being pen pals, often sending cards and gifts back and forth.

When I received the Bic Gel-ocity quick dry gel pens for testing, I immediately thought of my pen pals.  We all love cool pens...especially gel pens.  And I received three sets; one for me and one for each of them.  It couldn't be more perfect.

I ripped open my pack of three and tested them on one of the coloring pages that came with them.  Honestly, I wasn't expecting very much.  I've been disappointed so many times with gel pens that were dry before I could use them, pens that smeared and pens where the color was too pale to be seen.  The Bic Gel-ocity pens are SO different!!  They are vibrant and dry quickly so that they don't smear on the page!

There are three pens in the set; blue, pink and purple.  These are a joy to write or color with.  If you enjoy the artistic expression of coloring and you love gel pens, these are definitely something you want to check out.  There is a set of 12 that I'm eyeing at Target for just $12.99 and I really feel like I want more colors!!  I generally use different colored pens in my planner to code it and the gels I tried in the past were fails.  Now that I know I can use Bic Gel-ocity with the vibrance and staying power that I need, I want a couple more colors.

Here's some closer pictures to show you the colors.

The pens have a comfortable ergonomic barrel.  I appreciate that so much as the feel is nice and my hand doesn't cramp using them.

I didn't expect to be wow'ed but I really was.  I was thrilled to find gel pens that are dependable for my planner.  The color is strong, they dry quickly, and they're super affordable.  Whether you're journaling, planning, coloring or writing to a friend, you'll want to check out the Bic Gel-ocity.  The performance is very satisfying with these pens.

Having a pen pal has been a fun learning and social exercise for me both as a kid and an adult.  I've learned enough about my pen pals to know they're going to love getting these sets in the mail.  Do you love a good pen?  What are your favorites; gel or traditional ink?  Do you have a pen pal story?

  1. Oooh I had four pen-pals and it was ever so much fun to exchange cards, photos, stamps, and gifts, and learn about other cultures. It all went away when we hit pre-teens and the internet turned up.

    1. It's always fun...but yeah, some of the fun things of childhood have kind of disappeared with the internet lives we lead.

  2. I had a pen pal in France when I was in 6th grade. I'm sad that we stopped writing after a while. Now I guess my "pen pals" are the online bloggers who I've never met, like you! I don't know if I have ever tried a gel pen, but these look like they work very well. I don't color but they look like they'd be fun to have.

  5. When I was teaching I was the pen pal of my students. Every week I wrote them letters and they wrote me back. It was so much fun because I learned so much about them. In their summer pack I included a SASE envelope so they'd write me over the summer too. Many of them followed through and it was a joy to receive those and write back to them.
I am a pen nut and love having a variety of pens of all kinds and colors so these appeal to me.
