DRY ITCHY WINTER SKIN GOT YOU DOWN? CUREL HYDRA THERAPY ITCH DEFENSE MOISTURIZER MIGHT BE THE ANSWER

Dry itchy skin in winter is almost a universal phenomenon.  As the temperatures drop, the warm dry air from the heaters rises and zaps the moisture from our skin.  Cold blowing winter winds certainly don't help, do they?  The air is drier and our bodies have a really tough time keeping our skin soft and comfortable.  Luckily, Curel just might have the solution with the Hydra Therapy Itch Defense Wet Skin Moisturizer, ($10.99 / 12 fl oz).

The moisturizer uses brilliant ingredients like ceramides, vitamin E and oatmeal extract to provide relief from dry itchy skin and help to repair the moisture barrier.   Hydra Therapy is a water-activated moisturizer that works deep into the skin's surface to provide itch defense and moisture.    I keep this in my shower and use as directed:  After showering, apply it to your wet skin.  It glides on smoothly and absorbs pretty quickly.   Don't rinse it off; just towel dry like usual.  Use daily for best results.

This product is dermatologist recommended and I recommend it as well.  It seems unusual to apply a moisturizer to wet skin, doesn't it?  But it truly does lock in moisture and absorb well into the skin.

Living in Phoenix, I can get dry itchy skin in summer, too, from the chlorinated swimming pool, so I intend to continue to use this product.  My skin thanks me.

You can find Curel Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer at drugstores nationwide.  How are you soothing your skin this dry itchy winter?

THE NEW PIXI BEAUTY RETINOL TONIC IN REVIEW

There's a new beauty tonic in the Pixi Beauty family!!  I know many of us are long-time devotees of their top selling Glow Tonic.  Glow Tonic uses glycolic acid for gentle help in removing dead skin cells, ginseng to envigorate and aloe vera to sooth and hydrate the skin.  The tonic reduces the appearance of pores, accelerates cell renewal while balancing and revealing a brighter complexion.  It is one of my holy grail skin items.  If I skip it, my skin needs extra manual exfoliation and just peels from dryness, while looking far less bright.  My skin won't be smooth in the morning with out it; it'll be a little bumpy and peeling.  This product has a cult like following for good reason.  I know so many Glow Tonic lovers have anxiously been awaiting reviews of the new Pixi Retinol Tonic, (3.4 fl oz / $15).

The tonicis housed in a lavender bottle with the familiar Pixi spring green lid and label.  It's pretty.  Pixi Retinol Tonic is a time release retinol that also reduces fine lines and smooths skin.  There are peptides that firm skin and work to boost collagen.  The Jasmine Flower heals and balances.

Let's look at the ingredient list:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Methyl Gluceth-20, PEG-8, Panthenol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Flower Extract, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-27, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Retinol, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower/Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Sodium Citrate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Ethylhexylglycerin.

The Retinol Tonic has a faint pleasant scent of jasmine and lavender.  I love how it smells.  I use it after I use Glow Tonic and in the same way, on a cotton round and patted on my face.   I have really been enjoying it's benefits.

I've been a retinol user for 20 years.  In the past year, my neck has become sensitive to my usual retinol.  This tonic is mild enough that I can use it where I'm sensitive which thrills me to be able to have the benefit of retinol on my neck and eye area again.  I think this is safe for those sensitive to retinol, (always patch test first), as well as a GREAT place for someone to start with their first retinol.

I also did a test, as a long time retinol user, to see how it works for someone who is used to a high level of retinol.  I put my usual retinol aside and tested the Retinol Tonic for two weeks with no other retinol.  I was so excited to see that it continued the good results I'm used to getting.  If I normally go without retinol for a few days because I'm ill or lazy, my face peels like tissue paper until I get it back in proper condition.  It never peeled and when I restarted my higher level of retinol, my skin was still used to it.  (Generally if you stop a higher level of retinol, you have to build back up to it).

So now, I'm using this as part of my regular day and nighttime routines.  It doesn't interfere with my other AHAs or retinols and is an adjunct to them.  I really enjoy this.  I think it's a perfect compliment to anyone's skincare routine and especially is a great way to start using retinol without any of the risk.

You can purchase Pixi Beauty items on their website or boutiques and also at Target.   Learn more about the brand by following their blog and across social media channels on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and youtube.
