Tarte Cosmetics Make Believe In Yourself Magic Wand Unicorn Makeup Brushes Plus Sephora Haul

Right???  RIGHT??!!??!  Unicorn brushes!!!  From Tarte!  I love Tarte's brushes on the daily anyway and being a total brush fiend, I needed to have the newly released unicorn handled colorful makeup brushes.  And just LOOK at that tissue they were wrapped with inside the box!?!?!  My hair is devastated because it's no longer the most unique little unicorn in my house!

So I made a video right away and included the other items that I purchased from Sephora.  There are a couple items I'm not sure about but neither the brush set or the lip paint will ever leave my stash.  Please like and comment on youtube, or on here, if you like.

What's the most unicorn-y item you own?  The most unicorn-y in your beauty stash?  I'd love to hear about it!

Are Makeup Revolution New-Trals Vs Neutrals & Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palettes Dupes?

Press Sample

When I received the Makeup Revolution Professional Eyeshadow Palette New-Trals Vs Neutrals, I was struck by what seemed to be a strong similarity in look to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance shadow palette.  I posted a picture on Instagram and got a lot of messages asking how similar it was to the Modern Renaissance.  Was it a dupe?  Let's see.

This palette contains 16 shadows and runs strong in the orange, red and neutral categories.  It has a double sided brush, (which I find useful), inside for application.  Some swatches should help, right?

It has everything...shimmering lights, mediums and dark...matte lights, mediums and dark.  The last shade on the bottom doesn't show correctly for the camera on my arm.  It is a deep plum with red-violet particles.  The only way I could show you it's pretty purpleness was to show you on my eye.  I found it really tough to accurately portray the colors across my half would be accurate and the other a little less so....but the colors are really a great mix and apply easily.   They last all day for me over concealer on the eye.  I got into a zone for awhile where this palette was all I wanted to wear.  (My flash washed out my look just a little - it was more vibrant in person.)

I had so many questions about the comparison to ABH that I posted some pictures of them together on my Instagram.

You can see that many shades are similar but there are marked differences.  The red toned colors in the Anastasia palette are much cooler and more pink toned.  The New-Trals vs Neutrals palette has warmer tones in the red and oranges, which also all have shimmer whereas the pinks and orange in the ABH are all matte.

Here are swatches of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette.

The Modern Renaissance palette is more powdery but also more pigmented.  It has 14 shades, a two ended brush, and a total of .28 oz. of product for $45.  It doesn't have a very deep shade to finish off the outer eye, if you prefer those to do so.

The Makeup Revolution palette has 16 shades, a total weight of .56 oz. and retails for $12.  It is both a good working alternative to the ABH as well as a good addition to your palette wardrobe if you already have the Anastasia.  I can't see any reason not to have both if you already have the Modern Renaissance, which came out first.   For me, this palette fills a color gap I had and it's very affordable.  It also has the addition of the danged gorgeous purple to bring the darkness you might wish to your eye.  Both companies are cruelty-free.

My suggestion would be to hit up Ulta and check out this palette.  They often have BOGO1/2 sales in this brand as well, plus coupons for money off drugstore items.  I'm really impressed with this brand and am excited to share it with you.  They honestly have something for everyone and their Affirmation is one of my top eyeshadow palettes of 2016.

I want to be sure to tell you that this is a nice stand alone palette.  I did the comparison because I had so many requests, but it doesn't need to be judged against ABH to realize it's value.  It's good in it's own right and makes an excellent addition to any collection.

I'm curious what you think about the similarities and differences and if this would be a good fit for you.  What is your favorite Makeup Revolution item?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List Volume 2 Lipgloss Set Swatches & Review

Anastasia Kisses On My List Lipgloss set, hydrafull lipgloss

Volume 2 of the Anastasia Kisses On My List Hydrafull lipgloss set is an absolute winner!! These glosses quickly became my favorite from the very first try. I've carried 2 or 3 with me every day since I received them.

Included in the set of six Hydrafull lipglosses are three Hypercolor glosses. Hypercolor means that the pigment reacts to your own body chemistry and creates a unique color for you. All three of the pink glosses are the Hypercolor formulation. From left to right, the colors are Moi, Maggie Mae, Sharonna, Jolene, Roxanne and Lola.

They are pictured in the same order in the swatch photo below.

I want to tell you a little bit about them before I tell you why I love these glosses so much. When I pulled the wand out of the first tube, I thought it was your average doefoot applicator until I used it.

The applicator felt a little different in applying the glosses, which have a basic consistency of any Mac lipgloss, tho not quite as sticky. I wasn't sure at first what the difference was, so I took a good look at the wand. It's a silicon paddle shaped applicator!

At first, I wasn't sure I could manipulate this on my lips, but I really found it to apply the glosses well. I think I was initially thrown by the applicator being different but different doesn't mean bad. I've learned something!!

Here is Maggie Mae, which is in the running for my top personal favorite gloss from this set. I love love love the nude colors the most but the pinks also look great, I just have to be a little more careful applying them.

I find these glosses to be very moisturizing. They wear well and have great shine. They're pretty much perfect with everything. The theme of the collection is a nod to 1970's rock so you'll find yourself humming the accompanying theme song with each lipgloss you use. Well, I do anyway...

I can't show you a picture of Sharonna since I didn't realize I didn't take one until I started writing up this post. And I can't take one now because this is a limited edition set and I want you to hurry and purchase this before it sells out!!! Instead, I want to show you the back of the box. Noteworthy all on it's own, it gives you a feel for the statement of the glosses. (m-m-m-m-my-yi-yi-yi-yi Woo!! just happens!)

The Hypercolor lipglosses were a surprise to me. They self-adjust to your own body chemistry so that the color you see in the tube isn't necessarily the exact same that your lips will display. After about five minutes, they deepen a bit, too, and leave a nice flush of color on your lips.

Swatches of Roxanne, (only one of the best songs ever, also a wonderful lipgloss).

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Joleeeeeeene....

And L-o-l-a Lola!

The full set of six lipglosses retails for $30...just $5 a gloss!!! You can purchase them, if you hurry, at Nordstrom, Anastasia's own website, Sephora, Dillard's and other fine department stores.  It's important to note that Anastasia Beverly Hills is a cruelty-free company.

I love this set.  Go get them while you can!!  I want to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  One thing I'm excited about for this year is I'm finishing up Invisalign this week and will get those danged buttons removed from my teeth...finally!!!  No more funky lip swatches!!  What are you looking forward to in 2013?

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me Eye Palette and Kit; Swatches and Review

Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me Kit comes to you in a delightful black box with copper writing. This set is touted as a "kit within a clutch" and the clutch slides right out of the outer box, revealing a velvet "clutch" type of box with copper accents that match the outer box. This is really a super cool presentation and would make a great holiday gift.

Pull down the copper colored emblem that is embossed with Anastasia Beverly Hills, open the lid and the kit is revealed within, as well as the fully mirrored lid of the clutch. What you see inside is an eyeshadow palette, a black liquid eyeliner, a clear brow gel, and a double ended brush.

Open the eyeshadow palette and you see nine eyeshadows in matte and pearlized formulas in colors that are  in nudes and plums. There is also a mirrored lid inside the shadow palette. Today we're going to focus on the eyeshadows.

Anastasia Beverly Hills, Want You To Want Me Eye Palette, eyeshadow

I'm going to state right off the bat that I ADORE this eyeshadow palette. I have worn it several times, in different combinations, and the shadows wear VERY well. They've made it 12+ hours without creasing. Remarkable. Anastasia says the velvety smooth matte and hydrating Illumin8 shimmer shades keep eyes looking glam and crease-free. And I agree!!

The palette is an ode to the 1970s and the shadows have names reflecting the era, such as Platform Wedge, Members Only, Graphic T’s, Iron on, Front Row Center, Ziggy, Brass in Pocket, Power Ballad, Jellies. Fun!!! The shadows are nicely pigmented and can be used wet for greater impact.

Let's look at the swatches, which were done dry with sponge applicators. You'll see that a couple of the shades are similar to the skintone of my arm but they show up well on my eyelids. My lids and arm have vastly different skintones.

From the Anastasia web site, the key ingredients of the shadows are:
  • Youthful SynergyTM Complex in Shimmer shades.
  • Brown Algae - A key ingredient that smoothes, firms, hydrates, and revitalizes the appearance of skin.
  • Diamond Core Powder - Diffuses light for a soft focus effect.
  • Sea Whip Extract - Soothes the skin.
  • Macadamia derivative - A natural hydrator capable of holding up to 300% more water in the skin.
  • Powerful antioxidants of Vitamins A, B, C, E, and F. Balkan Botanical Infusion®.

These helpful details are on the back of the outer box.

And now you get to see me with on two different days that I wore the eyeshadows. One day I focused on the plums and another day on the nude.

Nude day:

I was thrilled to receive this to review because I'd been looking at it everywhere I went but was waiting for the Sephora sale to purchase it. And now that I've used it, I find that it is really an excellent value. You receive 9 high performance eyeshadows, a brush, a liquid eyeliner, a brow gel and two the amusement of the ode to the '70's. All for just $34 USD. It's a great value and makes a nifty gift presentation. The only thing I would add if I was making this palette is a true highlighter shade. Otherwise, we have perfection in nudes and plums with this palette.

You can purchase the kit at Nordstrom, Dillards, Belk, Sephora, Anastasia's website, among other places.  It's truly a steal of a deal and the quality is very very good.  Don't miss it!!
This is truly one of the best gift sets out there this year.  What have you found that people shouldn't pass up?
