The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is NOW Open for 2014!!

Here we go, people!!!!  Are you ready!?!?!?!  Today the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for Fall 2014 officially launches!!  I'd love to help you shop since I've been doing active investigations since the pre-sale.  Be sure to read my MUST HAVE ITEMS post where I've got pictures of my very top few favorite finds.  But don't stop there, let me show you mooooooooooorrrrrrrre!!

Philosophy, Clinique, bath

We know Nordstrom carries all the best skincare brands, right?  They even sell Algenist now!!  Unfortunately, it's not in my local store but, no matter, it's easily accessible online.  I wasn't looking for skincare products when I went to the exclusive pre-sale event for cardholders, but one set really jumped out at me.

My TOP SKINCARE BUY from the 2014 Anniversary sale is THIS set by Dr. Dennis Gross. Your skin can be refreshed and renewed up the wazoo with all the peel and all the retinol!!!  This is a fantastic value at $107 for the five products, (which would normally cost  $178).  If you only get one item from the sale, do your face a favor and purchase the set of Dr Dennis Gross' Anti-aging bestsellers.

skincare, facial peel, retinol, eye serum, beauty

While you're on the first floor, check out some of the beautiful makeup palettes that are being offered this year.  In my previous post about the sale, I showed you the LORAC Skinny Eyeshadow Palettes., which are my MUST HAVE top makeup values from the sale.  Nude Skinny is on backorder online, but it's possible some stores may still have a few and have your favorite salesperson do a merchandise search for it, if you really want it.  (And hello, $15 for a great nude shadow palette?!?!?!  Who wouldn't want it???!!!?)

In general, all the eyeshadow palettes and face sets that I saw this year were beautiful and I could imagine the ease of use of each and every one.  The colors this year go together well within each palette and many come with other items, such as gloss, mascara, eye pencil or shadow brush.  It's well worth checking out each offering.

The Mac Anniversary theme is called Look In A Box.  There are two large palettes and three smaller set.  The large palettes are pictured below and come in All About Beige, (top picture), and All About Plum, (bottom).  They retail for $49 each, (retail value $101),  and include 2 blushes, six shadows, 2 lipsticks in the pan and an eyeshadow brush in each of the sets.  Notice the attention to detail of a plastic covering for the lip items.  YES!!!  Thank you, Mac!!

Nordstrom Anniversary 2014 Beauty Sale, eyeshadow, lipstick, blush

I really want the Laura Mercier Flawless Expressions set.  The face palette from the kit is pictured below in the top photo.  Isn't it great??  It's $85 and includes a shadow stick, mascara and lipgloss as part of the deal.  This is a retail value of $130.  I really want this.....what to do, what to do.....
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty 2014
In the bottom portion of the above photo is a blurry picture of the Bobbi Brown Nude On Nude eyeshadow palette.  It comes in a set with a mascara a gel eyeliner pen in black.  Wait!!!!  Bobbi makes a gel liner PEN???  Sign me up!!  I love the palettes she comes out with for Anniversary and Holiday.  They're always so wonderful.  The colors work well with each other and provide 100 different looks.  This set is just $85 for a $208 value.

I realize that I have far too much to say to make it in just two posts.  There's still shoes, more makeup, accessories, handbags and more and more let's do this....

I'll be showing you more real life pictures and swatches of the makeup soon and especially talking about the item so many people have asked about...the Nordstrom Exclusive Chanel Dentelle Precieuse Illuminating .Face Powder.  I know you want to see swatches before you plunk down $80 on a powder, but YES, this is different than previous powders, and yes, if you adore a sophisticated glow, you WILL want this.  Ooooh, and the new Chanel Quads too!!  And the new Armani shadows!!!!

I'll be showing you the Nars sets, the Mac trio sets with the eyeshadow, lipglass and lipstick, Deborah Lippmann Ready for Love nail polish set, pictures of the other polish offerings, lipsticks, shadows, brushes and more.

In the area of clothing, there's some things you HAVE to know about before I leave for tonight.  The lace bottomed tank tops in THIS POST are available in six colors.  I don't see why you shouldn't have them all.  I'll show you real life pictures of the tank colors and the accompanying sweaters that are mentioned and shown in my previous post.

I want you to consider these Halogen sweaters, ($49).  I think they run about a size smaller than the usual Halogen sweaters, just fyi.  But aren't the zippered pockets just totes adorbs?  Umm, yes they are!!

We'll talk about the Hue Ultra Wide Waistband Leggings.  Only the best looking and most comfortable leggings ever.  I JUST WISH they came in more than 3 colors!!!  They're very flattering and hide bumps and bulges.  And don't forget, this is the one time of year they and Hanky Panky are on sale.

More clothes, jewelry, shoes and handbags.  The only things I haven't looked yet is the men's portion of the sale.  With my failing knees and having a jammed toe on each foot, by the time I've fooled around in my areas, I don't have the foot power to go to men's.  Oh I'm probably just making excuses, cuz I'm too busy looking at girly things to go to guy's!!

One quick thing before I go, the first day of the preview for the sale, I braved temperatures that were almost up to 55 with pouring, pouring, pouring rain.  I dressed in my Alaskan Chic.  Jeans, sneakers that I don't care if they got yucky, and an appropriate hoody.  I spied the Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5-zip Crossbody bags.  It comes in lots of colors and is on sale for $129.90.  I love all the zippers.  It's big enough maybe for my wallet an cell phone and a lip gloss.  Small.  But I still loved it.  IF ONLY it had come in the hot pink of the Minkoff bag that I'm wearing in the picture, I would have snapped it right up....because, hello??  It matches my chic Alaskan outfit!!!

The pink is still a cool bag.  Probably should have gotten it.  So let's have some fun.  What are your must have items from the sale and what are you dying to see real life pictures of?

A First Look At The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2014

It's very late right now and I have to be up early, but I wanted to be sure to tell you that if you are a Nordstrom card holder, you qualify to gain EARLY ACCESS to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and it started on the 10th.  This is a quick post to tell you my top picks that you don't want to miss!!  And you'll have to hurry because if my friends and I are any indication, I think these items may sell out before the sale actually starts on July 17th.

nsale, Pre-sale, exclusive

First let me tell you that you definitely need a few things to take with you; first and foremost, your Nordstrom card.  This gives you the early access to preview the sale that you definitely want to have.  Next, a bottle of water. I find that a bottle of water is nessesary as I get so thirsty during the time I browse, and because I can put the lid on it tightly, it will fit under my arm if I need some hands-free shopping, or will sit safely in my  shopping bag without ruining anything. Bring any medicine that you might need so that you don't have to leave early. For instance, don't forget your asthma inhaler....just sayin'. Bring parking money if you have to park at a meter or in a garage. And, this is really important, bring a camera or a smart phone so that you can take pictures of items to think about later or to see how clothing looks on you in an accurate way.

Wear easy on/off comfortable footwear; you'll be on your feet for quite awhile.  Dress the same.  Don't dress to impress at this sale, dress for comfort and ease of trying on.  However, do your hair better than I did, cuz it's just whack.  We've been working in the house a lot and my hair took a beating so please do me a favor and ignore it.  Wear natural makeup and either naked or neutral nails so that you can try on any colors you might want to.

Ok, ready?  Set?  SHOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!

FIRST MUST HAVE ITEM:  Chloe K Lace Trim Tunic Tank, sale price:  $21.90
Trust me and get one in every color.  You'll find this item in the Brass Plum but don't worry if you don't think you can fit junior's sizes.  This tank is very generously sized.  I busted out full on grins when I tried them on.  Being 5'8", it's hard to find tunics that actually are tunics on me.  My friend Tracy is all of 5'2", I think, and she's getting the tanks in every color also.  We're both over the moon because we've been looking for something like this.  Now we have 5 or 6 somethings like this, lol.

Check out the edge of lace on the bottom.  Pretty cool.  This tank comes in six colors and you need every one of them!!

Nordstrom Anniversary sale, 2014,  Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Also, there are two coordinating sweaters.   Below you'll see the Frenchi Lace Pattern Long Cardigan, which comes as shown and additionally in a black with natural taupe peeking through.  This is the softest sweater I think I've ever been in.  The sale price is just $35.90.  It runs true to the usual junior sizing.  Gosh both colors just go with all the tanks.  It's a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Miracle!!!

THE MUST HAVE MAKEUP ITEM:  The Lorac Nude Skinny and Navy Skinny Eyeshadow Palettes.   Just $15 each!!!!

The first one I'm showing is the Navy Skinny Eyeshadow Palette.  The palette is shown in the top picture under indoor lighting at home.

Nordstrom Anniversary sale, without flash

And with a flash in the store lighting.,,

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I happened to swatch this palette while in the store and took pictures both without flash and with flash.  These eyeshadows are so buttery soft...they are like cream.  And bear in mind, these were just super quick fingertip swatches.  The pigmentation is better than my silly fingers would have you believe.  Just velvety soft!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Below are the swatches with flash.  Above them are the lip colors from the two Nars trio sets, Schiap and Dolce Vita.

Nars Schiap, Nars Dolce Vita swatches, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I haven't swatched the Nude Skinny eyeshadow palette yet, just because I haven't had the time to sit and breathe, but you can bet I will.  I also want to compare it to some of Lorac's more recent eyeshadow palettes.  The first picture is without flash in my home.  The second photo is with flash under the store lighting.

So these are my immediate MUST HAVES before they sell out.  Which are your picks of the sale?

I want to thank Jessica who works Chanel in the Anchorage Nordstrom store for her help in the mad frenzy that is the Cosmetics Department.  She is so sweet and kind and chipper....just a joy to work with.   Hi Jessica!!!!!

Don't we all love double, triple or 10x point events at Nordstrom on our cards? I know I do. Tomorrow, 11/6/13, begins the Women's Half Yearly sale through November 17th. That means double points on Nobember 6th and 7th!!!!!  Yippee!!! For every dollar spent on your Nordstrom Visa or Mod card, you will get four points. Chanel Rose Tourbillon Joues Constraste Powder Blush Swatches and Review

Chanel Rose Tourbillon is a fabulous blush that was released as part of an exclusive collection that Chanel presented for the Nordstrom Anniversary sale called Le Blanc. This blush was an Asian exclusive prior to the Aniversary sale and is limited edition at Nordstrom. It should be purchased while available because it simply gives a fabulous glow. This blush retails for $43 USD and is currently sold out online but can probably still be found at some counters or through a merchandise search at Nordstrom.

In the Pan, Rose Tourbillon looks like a deep pink, nearly fuchsia, with some sparkle.

The next picture is taken in the sun and shows the brush that all Chanl blushes come with but doesn't show the black velventeen pouch all blushes are housed in.

I wear this blush a lot. It doesn't go on harsh and scary, nor is it a glitterbomb on the skin. The shimmer blends into the skin to give a glow. I have often used the brush to apply this on the top of my cheekbones and on the apples of my cheeks, and sometimes I've used my own blush brush. I have been able to wear this color well with the most natural of glows.

I have a swatch on the skin that shows a comparison between my three favorite blushes of the moment. From left to right, Chanel Pink Explosion, Chanel Rose Tourbillon, and thirdly, Dior Pink In Love.

You should take a look at the review at Natural N Chic Makeup's blog.  There are many more blush swatches posted, more comparisons and fabulous photos.  While you're at it, cruise over to Cafe Makeup and check out her reviews and photos, as well as a picture on the face to show the delightful fresh glow of this blush.

I have a picture posted wearing this blush in a previous post about Bobbi Brown Hot Pink lipgloss, posted just a couple of days ago if you want to click the link to check it out.  So until next time...

Lancome Primrose Darling Color Design All In One 5 Eyeshadow and Liner Palette Swatches and Review

If you're a regular reader of this blog, you'll know that I have reviewed several of the Lancome Color Design Eye Brightening All In One 5 Eyeshadow and Liner Palettes in various colors...enough so that I think I could almost be labeled a collector. If you're not a regular reader, let me take this moment and thank you for coming by and let you know that you can find the following palettes reviewed at these locations:

Kissed By Gold

Taupe Craze

Emerald Boudoir

Amythyst Glam

Today we add Primrose Darling to the list.  I was in Dillard's and they had a really cute tote bag for a Lancome GWP, and you know how that goes...there's a cute bag and you just have to get it, so I had in mind to get another Color Design All In One Palette, even tho I had just purchased two more at the Nordstrom Sale. They didn't have the one I had my eye on but the Sales Associate showed me the Primrose Darling Palette.  And she said those magical words, "this one is limited only to our store".  I was wavering on the edge anyway because it had really nice colors, but limited availability pushed me over the wall and I purchased it.

I'm really glad I did.  This palette has one of the best Taupe shades EVER.  Do ya hear me Elvira and Joey?  Best Taupe ever!!  (We keep finding a lot of those.)

If you've read any other reviews on these palettes, you'll know that they have a plastic insert over the shadows that gives a suggested way to use the shades.  You can use them any way you want, of course, but it's quick and easy to follow the diagram when you're in a hurry.

The palette also comes with a fold out insert that shows a day time placement of shadows and a suggestion for a nighttime look.

This is how the palette looks without the plastic insert over it. The all over shade is a shimmering barely peach toned beige, the lid color is a shimmering rose, the crease color is a sparkling taupe. The highlighter color is a sparking light beige and the liner color is a beautiful shimmering navy with tone-on-tone shimmers.

I'm showing a second hand swatch because it shows the liner color in a truer tone. Swatching five colors on a hand creates hot spots with the camera and sometimes colors show better when you twist or turn your hand different ways to show the different colors, which always sacrifices one or more colors on the hand in any given position. It's the science of color analysis!

Time for actual on the face application photos!

And in order for a blogger to be "real" and truthful in blogging, one has to throw in a stupid look now and then.

pssst! Doesn't my Wet N Wild lipgloss look fab??

I recently spied two new fall Lancome Color Design palettes. I expect those will somehow follow me home soon and you may see them reviewed as well. Do you have any of these palettes? Which do you like? Do you have a favorite?

China Glaze Concrete Crackle...Epic Fail or Epic WIN!!

My most recent full manicure was Deborah Lippmann's Between The Sheets.   I did something so dumb on about day five. I opened some boxes to retrieve some treasures from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and in my haste to see the pretties, I used my thumb and forefingers rather than just get a pair of scissors. Stupid, stupid, stupid. That meant it was time to do something...either to change my polish or crackle/shatter it.

So the other day I was in my crackle/shatter drawer and saw the China Glaze Crackles. I've never used them. I've seen many in stores which were seperated and since they're new, that seemed really fast. I kinda figured they probably weren't much good, and forgot I even had them. I threw them on my swatch wheel and was impressed with the colors.

Trying to decide what color to crackle/shatter/blast over my fuchsia Lippmann polish was a quandry, but I just loved how the China Glaze Concrete, (grey), Crackle looked on my nail wheel. So I grabbed it and crackled. Somehow it seems like I always do my nails in the middle of the night because nobody, (*cough*, you know who you are), complains that the house smells like polish. Thus with my little nightlight aglow, I declared it a fail. I didn't even bother with topcoat or cleanup since I figured it wasn't staying but until the next evening.

The next day at lunch, I showed my husband and he declared it an EPIC fail and said I needed to blog it. But he was right. Whether your experiment goes right or wrong, to be true to your blog and your readers, you need to show it. But a funny thing happened on the way to run errands.

I realized my manicure matched my clothes and makeup.

Suddenly, it was growing on me. I put on top coat, did a little cleanup and found myself really liking it. The next day, I was wearing a purple with fuchsia top and while at Nordstrom, I got a lot of compliments on my nails and how they matched what I was wearing yesterday too! One worker said it was the coolest crackle she'd ever seen and wanted to know what it was, (ain't that right, Tracy?).

So I do believe that my fail turned into a win with the help of top coat. It really makes a difference. Makes the colors all bright and shiney. If you have a crackle/shatter/blast experiment that you don't think turned out, just try top coat and then wear it like you OWN IT, Baby!!!

Sneak Peak of Makeover by Dior Plus Mac Blogger's Obssession Lipglass Evolution Revolution

During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I had the opportunity to do a makeover with the Dior counter. The feature artist was Rita Brown, with whom I had an earlier makeover and you can read about it, written in two parts featuring face and lips  and all about the eyes.  Rita is a fabulous artist.  Truly one of the greats and a delight to talk with.

I can't show you the products in real life pictures because the counter was out of everything so I had what I purchased shipped to my house, but I can tell you. I'll show you the goodies when I receive them. Here's the overall view:

The foundation was Capture Total 040. This is a $76 foundation. :0 But it looked pretty good and wore even better. I was out in 110 degree F heat and it did not even melt off! They had wanted to use the spray foundation, ($60), but I have tried that before and have some little allergy to an ingredient in it. My husband gave the two thumbs up to the foundation...the whole look actually. The blush was a two part thing that is featured in a display with the anniversary Blue Tie Palette. It had a pink and light peach together for a real natural look that would suit anyone. The blush is #889 Pink In Love Glowing Color Powder Blush featured at this clickable link.

So let's talk about the eyes. I started with a makeup artist named Shelley who did the skincare and foundation. I told her my husband had requested a green eye look so she chose the Iridescent eyeshadow quint #409. She used the light grassy green all over the lid and put the taupe in the crease. She lined with the waterproof liner in black, doing an inner line on the upper lid as well as on the upper lid itself.

I told Shelley I was hoping for a little more dramatic liner and could we try the liquid liner. I don't normally use it myself because it seems like I'm always in a hurry. She chose the Diorliner in black, ($33), and told me that it was an easy idiot-proof liner. I ordered that just to test the theory, and she finished with some black mascara.

Next Rita came to bat. She examined the look and we decided to boost it with some more oomph. She grabbed the 5 Coulouers Designer Eyeshadow palette in Green Design #408, ($58), and put some of the deep green cream combined with the darker green shadow in the crease and here and there. She asked me how I felt about a little glimmer. I said sparkle me in glitter from head to toe and I'd die happy, so she used the other cream and the lightest green in the quint and put it on the inner lid and above, lightly, for a very wearable look.

She told me about the limited edition Plum Extase Mascara, ($28), and wanted to try it over the black on the lashes, even though she knew they were sold out at that counter. You can't really tell in pictures but it just makes my eyes look a little greener by contrast. Extase is a wonderful mascara to wear over whatever you usually wear. It plumps up the lashes and has this wickedly cool looking brush, but it really does make them more noticible.

My lips were finished with a nude liner and gloss, which I have no pictures of because I drank a water, tea and a diet coke on the way home and then ate lunch. Afterward, for dinnertime, I put on the Mac Blogger's Obsession lipglass in Evolution Revolution, which looks good with anything.\

So until I have products to swatch, there you have my latest Dior Makeover with Rita Brown.

Nordstrom Anniversary Exclusive - Deborah Lippmann Get This Party Started Glitter Nail Polish Trio Swatches Review

Swatches! We've got swatches! Lots of swatches!!

For the 2011 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, Deborah Lippmann is offering a trio of glitter nail polishes in a set called Get This Party Started. The set is $42 for three full size glitter polishes, which normally cost $18 to $20 each, so that's a nice little savings. One of the polishes has been around for awhile and is one of her most popular, plus there are two brand new polishes in the set. The nail polish set wasn't pictured in the Nordstrom Anniversary catalog, so let's have a preview, shall we?

The set is boxed in a sturdy black box. It houses the famed Lippmann polish Happy Birthday. Now I own every knock-off made of Happy Birthday and I have to tell you, after finally seeing the real thing, there is nothing else like it. The pink glitter polish is called Candy Shop and the black glitter polish is Forget You.

Pictured left to right: Happy Birthday, Candy Shop, Forget You.

In reverse, we have Forget You, Candy Shop and Happy Birthday.

Let's look at them one at a time both in the jar and with a nail swatch. First we'll have Happy Birthday. I'm just so happy to finally have this polish.

Second is the cotton candy pink polish full of glitter, Candy Shop.

Thirdly, we have Forget You, a black polish packed full of glitter.

In my one-fingered swatches, I noted a couple of things. The pink color of Candy Shop is a bit sheer and jellyish compared to the clear Happy Birthday and the black base of Forget You. Forget You is totally opaque in one coat. I imagine these will mostly be used as top glitter-coats, but Forget You will probably be used all on it's own. Happy Birthday can also be used on it's own, and I suppose you could with Candy Shop, but I think it would look better over a base coat.

All three polishes have the same glitter in them. Multiple shapes and multiple colors throughout, but unless I'm really crazy, (a possibility), my eyes tell me all three bear the same exact glitter. Remember that with chunky glitter nail polishes, you can push the glitters around to exactly where you want them, or you can apply them sheerly for just bits of glitter. It just really helps the distribution if you decide where you want the glitter.

I'll be interested to see what you all do with these. They should be in Nordstrom stores and online beginning July 15, 2011. I think they'll be very popular and sell out for sure. Lippmann lovers just can't resist!
