Kick Winter Woes Away With BenGay And My 10 Piece Winter Toolkit For Your Family

I have received information and materials from Johnson & Johnson Consumer, Inc, McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division.  The opinions stated are my own.  This is a sponsored post.

This shop has been compenstated by Collective Bias, Inc and its advertiser.  All opinions are mine alone.  #WinOverWinter #CollectiveBias

After each autmn, winter creeps in.  Sometimes with gusto and sometimes accompanied by the illnesses that seem to plague our families in the chilly season.  I like to prepare each of my family members by building winter toolkits that they can keep bedside and in the car to combat winter's sniffles and aches while providing familiar comfort.   BenGay is central to our care kits for all that pains us, along with Extra Strength Tylenol.  I'd like to invite you to build your winter toolkit along with me.

The first step is to head out to Target, where I pick up Ultra Strength BenGay, Extra Strength Tylenol, lip balms, tissues and more.   Don't you just feel so welcome there with such a cheery entry?

You can find the BenGay and Tylenol in the front of the store, either to the left or right as you enter, and right by the pharmacy.  Head past the Beauty aisles to the Heathcare section.

In my closest Target, I can purchase Tylenol in aisle 37, directly in front of the pharmacy.  Look at all the varieties!

Just on the other side of 36 is aisle 37, where I can find the Ultra Strength BenGay.  I was fortunate on this particular day to find that it had a coupon!!!  37 is still directly in front of the pharmacy.

My winter toolkit begins with these two items and contains a few more that I'd like to suggest for your winter survival as well.  These have been essential to my family's health for years.  My guys are  dependant on me to make them winter toolkits that they can use at bedside, in the bathroom and in the car.  Let's take a look at these and why they are our favorites.

In our toolkits:

1)  Ultra Strength BenGay.  I started using this after workouts in high school.  I had a lot of sore muscles and joint fatigue from the heavy strength training and long hours running and it became essential to me then.  I've continued to use it for the rest of my life and having just come off knee replacement surgery, BenGay is essential to my comfort during recovery.  The doctors gave me a prescription pain ointment, which has been the ultimate fail.  Not so with BenGay.  I use it every day and apply it far fewer times throughout the day than I ever did the rx.  It works.  It soothes the muscle and arthritis pains.

During winter a couple of years ago, my son contracted mono while at college.  If you've ever had it, you know how ultimately miserable it is.  And how easy it spreads.  My husband got it almost immediately.  Having had it as a teen, I was free to administer a LOT, and I mean a lot of BenGay thru the next year.  The muscle aches of mono are terrible!!!  We treated them with BenGay applied to the skin and Extra Strength Tylenol...which brings me to the next item in the list.

2.)  Extra Strength Tylenol.  This is something I also started taking as a teenager when I had muscle aches or headaches.  My husband and son depend on it for pain relief as well.  Tylenol is a staple in our winter toolkits and was especially essential during the mono year.  Phew.  I don't know what we would have done without it.

3.)  Peppermint Tea:   My whole family also loves peppermint tea when we're sick, have a belly ache, or just because.  My guys like it with a little honey, which helps a sore throat.  If your sinuses are feeling lousy, breath in the hot steam because peppermint not only soothes the tummy but it also helps clear sinuses.

4)  Candy Canes:  The delicious wintertime candy is also part of my winter relief toolkits for the same reason that the tea is.  I put it in the car kits not only for the tummy and sinus benefits, but because you never know if you'll need a little extra breath freshening while you're out and about town.

5)  Favorite Candle:  I put these in the bathroom kit.  Who doesn't, right?  If we had small children, I would limit the access to it but we're all adults in my home.  A favorite scent can be very calming when someone isn't feeling well.

6)  Tissues:  Tissues are an everytime essential but especially for the winter toolkit.  There's something fun about getting cute wintery patterns for something a little special.

7)  Hand Sanitizer:  You know how quickly a virus can run through a household.  We use hand sanitizer for post-sneezing and nose blowing to try to stop the spread.  I put it in the car toolkits so that we can keep healthy around town touching various public door handles and shopping carts, etc.  Prevention is key to a good winter.

8)  Allergy Treatment:  This item is just for me.  My allergies are terrible here in the winter.  I'm allergic to five large trees that bloom outside the bedroom during the winter.  I never had bad allergies before we moved here, so this is a newer addition to my own personal bedside winter survival kit.

The last item, and we use a lot of it, is pictured in one of the car kits below:

10.)  Lip Balm:  I like to use cute silly little lip balms in winter, with all the arctic characters.  It's just fun.  But my gosh, winter wind and air is so drying to the skin and lips that we all use a lot of these especially during winter.  I buy my guys regular looking balms, but for me...well, too cute to resist.

One thing to remember when building your toolkit and deciding where to store them is the ages of the residents of your home.  If you have small children, you need to keep the items high enough that they can't reach them.  BenGay should only be used by adults and children 12 or older to temporarily relieve the pain of backache, strain, sprain and arthritis.  Don't leave candles burning on the bathroom counter.

Also take into account what your climate is.  When I lived in Alaska, we never left BenGay in the car during the winter, and here in Arizona, during summer, we don't leave any of this but tissues in the car.  Everything else could be ruined or melt!

Do you build your family a winter survival toolkit? What's in yours?  I'd love to hear what your winter essentials are!

Staying Cozy With Some Cute And Some Ugly Pajamas. PLUS A Giveaway

On several holiday trips to Target, I noticed some awesome pajamas. Some were very cute in my eyes, some were questionable and on the verge of ugly. The funny thing is that the ones that I couldn't picture anyone actually wearing were the ones that people were just clammoring over when I was in the store. Here's some pictures of some of the things I saw, both cute and questionable.

Naturally, walking in, my first stop was in the Women's section, where I looked for a Christmas sweater or t-shirt to have another to wear at Christmas dinner.  Depending on what we're doing, I'll dress up for Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner, not necessarily both or sometimes both.  But just in case, it's a good excuse to get another holiday shirt.

hilarious holiday, Target

I don't even have to tell you what I chose, do I?  Snoopy!  Although I was tempted by ALL.  Especially the Coca-Cola Santa Claus.  We have a lot of Coca-Cola Clauses in our kitchen.  And I love them, so I was really tempted.

But onto the men's department where I hoped to find some pj's for my son and maybe a holiday set of boxers for myself, too.

This year, Target was running a Hilarious Holiday campaign.  I got a real kick out of the different signs around the store like the one in the upper left hand corner.  See the Grinch boxers?  They come with a gift bag!!  In the upper right, is the Coca-Cola boxers that I got for myself.  There were so many choices!!!

If they'd had my size in the Ralphie from A Christmas Story on the lower left, I would have purchased those.  On the lower right you can see the Batman boxers which had a blue cape on the back.  Now is that hilarious or what?  They also had caped Superman boxers!

More awesome men's undies to chose from.  On the lower left hand side is a pair of Peanuts sleep pants.  I wanted these really badly!!!!  But I couldn't find them in my size.  I'm going to check Target online to see if they're still available.  I WANT THEM.

Moving into the pajamas:

I thought these were really questionable.  They are adult men's onesies!!!  Does any guy wear these?  They even had footie Superman pj's that I saw.  They have long capes on the back, which I thought would be a little bit hard to sleep with.  However, every time I was in Target, I saw boys, teens, men and women looking at these and declaring them completely awesome.  I heard people talking about lounging in them on Christmas and weekend mornings, so I guess that just shows you what I know.

My son and I went to Target after Christmas with myself intent on looking to see if maybe I had somehow missed the Peanuts sleep pants, and he saw these onesie pj's and said "Moooooooooooooom, why didn't you get me these?!?!?!?!?!"  My heart grew three sizes that day, as did my appreciation for what I thought were ugly pajamas.

These are some of the pj's and gift items that I had purchased for my teenaged son for Christmas:

Do you see the pajama sets on the upper left?  I took a picture of Ralphie, but I got him the set of Superman on the bottom.  The pants are fleece and there is an accompanying t-shirt.  There were two different tins that had A Christmas Story Boxers in them.  I mean, c'mon, they're a major award!!!

On the bottom left, I purchased a Chapstick tin for his stocking.  It has three peppermint flavored Chapsticks in it, which are truly a Godsend in a long dry Alaskan winter.  On the bottom right are Superman sleep pants.  They look grey in the picture, but they are actually a true superman blue.  And the orange looking S logo is bright red.  See Cookie Monster peeking out from behind them?  I've been asking for those for two years!!!  I'll have to buy them for myself, I guess.

I want to show you that Target still has cozy pajamas in stock, as you see the plaid on the right in the lower picture.  Most of the other pj's I've shown you are still in our local stores, but they're going fast.  And, it looks like Target is gearing up to get ready for some sexy Valentine pajamas and boxers.  Uh huh, I bought Snoopy for myself!!

And now we get to the giveaway!  Two of the funniest items that caught mine and my son's eyes when Target was beginning to put out holiday items were the mustached corkscrew set and the flask.  My son has been asking for a flask since he was ten!  I guess it's a cool thing for a kid to carry around??  But he still doesn't have one.  No!!  Too young!!  I can't imagine if I'd given in and he had one at school.  Gosh, what are kids thinking?  Anyway, this is the giveaway:

Please follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter Giveaway and good luck.  Get some cute or ugly jammies and celebrate your hilarious holidays!

My Halloween Costume - A Snoopy T-shirt From Target.

I've always loved the Peanuts gang, and especially Snoopy.  I adore Snoopy so when I spotted this Tshirt at Target, I picked it up.  No brainer!!!

I've been wearing it a lot. Sometimes I'll pair it with my orange Mossimo boyfriend cardigan, also from Target, skinny jeans and boots.  It makes a fun fall fashion statement.

Get Ready For The Oscars With Beauty Essentials From Target

We've seen the Golden Globes. We just watched the SAG Awards. Next week is the Director's Guild Awards, and then we finally arrive at the Academy Awards. The Oscars are the trifecta of high fashion, where couture, hair and makeup all come together. Sometimes it's as exciting to see what the stars are wearing as it is to see who wins.

With such a tight race for the category of Best Picture this year, I suspect the race for fashion awards will be just as thrilling.  Many blogs will have a breakdown of the makeup and hair that you can easily copy with some suggestions from Target.  While stars like SAG winners Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway have a team of stylists and makeup artists to create their red carpet looks, Target offers products from NP Set, Pixi, Umberto, Mixed Chicks and more to easily create a complete glam look from head to toe – all for under $30!

adiant skin: 1. Pixi All-Over-Magic, Bare Radiance ($24.00), 2. Pixi Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer ($30.00), 3. NP Set Wake Me Up Day Cream ($29.00), 4. NP Set Pre-Foundation Bronzing Primer ($29.00)

Flawless face: 5. Pixi Large Lash Mascara ($18.00), 6. NP Set Lip Balm with Benefits, Baja ($10.00), 7. Pixi Lash Line Ink ($16.00), 8. Gorgeous-to-Go Palette ($29.00)

Movie star hair: 9. Umberto Beverly Hills Shimmer Shine Spray ($8.99), 10. Goody Doublewear Headwrap, Pearl and Tulle ($9.99), 11. Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz ($11.99), 12. Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner ($13.99)

These are great suggestions.  Wouldn't it be fun to have a viewing party for the Oscars and dress all fancy, with a do and winged liner?  You can do your hair and makeup with these affordable suggestions from Target.

Let's Talk Turkey About Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's a peaceful time of love and family where we can relax and enjoy each other and be thankful for having each other in our lives. I love that feeling more than anything.

But THIS YEAR....(and this is not to minimize the warmth of the holiday, I just have a different post in mind today)....we are going to go play Black Friday!!! And boy are there a lot of things to consider!

Wal Mart will be open all day, but that's boring. Give me a line of people all cheery and laughing about how stupid we are while sipping a hot mocha over stores open all day anytime!!! We're starting at Target at 9 pm. While some run to the electronics section, I'm stopping into the cosmetics aisle as I've been lured by some beautiful pictures of intrigue.

Pixi has some interesting holiday offerings.  The first kit runs $34 USD.  I haven't used their eyeshadows or blushes yet, but I imagine they're good.  The things I have used from the line are nice so I really want to look at this.

I LOVE Pixi nail polish.  They usually retail for $9-10 each so three polishes for $12 is a great deal and these look awesome to me.

The Lid Last Shadow Pen Duo retails for $12.  I have the pen on the left and it makes an awesome shadow base or is great alone with a liner.  Love it!!
Burt's Bees...who doesn't love Burt's Bees?  This year there are some great holiday sets to consider.  The Burt's Bees Favorites set is just $19.99

And look at this block of nail polish from Elf.  Dying to try this.  It's only $10!!

Elf also has two large eyeshadow palettes containing all the palettes you could possibly want.  I haven't tried their shadows yet, have you?  The palettes are just $15 each!

Awesome, right?  Right.  After Target, I'd like to head to Ulta.  They have a two page doorbuster flyer online right now but they haven't released all their in store specials yet, so I'll amuse myself in the meantime by shopping online.  There is a plethora of online deals to choose from!!!

Beginning this morning, Inglot Cosmetics has a 20% off sale.  I'll be shopping there.

If you look at the Affiliate ads on my sidebar, (they go live on Friday), you'll see that Nordstrom is having a buy 2, get one polish free special for Black Friday.  They have other cosmetics specials as well, so once Friday hits, click thru my ad, if you don't mind, and it will help sustain my website as you shop.  You'll find all kinds of deals.  Cyber Monday brings many more and on Monday, I'll have new ads.  Order online Monday and receive 10 pts per dollar on your Nordstrom Rewards card.  Counting down the hours....

Billion Dollar Brows, a brand I'll be reviewing for you soon, has a special this Black Friday, of 70% off their 3 Steps To Beautiful Brows Kit.  It retails for $85 and you can purchase it for $25.50 with the code BDBBLACKFRI.  This code is good from 11/22/12 to 11/26/12 11:59 PST.  I have this kit.  It's really nice.  It contains a brow pencil, brow gel and brow serum.

After I have some turkey tomorrow, I'll come back with more special savings.  That way, the special banners will be active, or closer to it, and the post won't be so long you can't stand it.  :)

What are your Thanksgiving plans and do you have any Black Friday madness in store, or how about Cyber Monday?

Tricks And Treats Aren't Just For Kids This Halloween!!!

How about some Beauty Tricks and Treats for the big kids this year? That's just what Target has in mind for their cosmetic shoppers. I have to share this press release with you. It's cute and what a great idea. I'd love to trick or treat thru the neighborhood and get a big ol' bag of cosmetics, lol!!! Please put out a sign on your door if you have cosmetics instead of candy. Ha!! You gotta check this out.

Tricks and treats aren’t just for kids this Halloween. Whether disguising a problem area or playing up a feature, Target design partners Jemma Kidd, Napoleon Perdis, Petra Strand and Umberto Savone have plenty of beauty tricks up their sleeves. Their afforable, multi-tasking beauty treats are packed with beneficial ingredients to help women achieve an updated, glamorous look. Please see below for a selection of their latest and greatest fall essentials – all under $25 exclusively at Target.

JK Jemma Kidd Instant Lift Skin Perfecting Primer ($24)

· Trick: Taking a minute in the morning to apply primer before makeup helps to lock it in place, which cuts down the time it takes to reapply and touch-up throughout the day.
· Treat: Flash Tensing Agent in this formula diminshes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by hydrating and firming skin. Lavender essential oils and anti-oxidant alpine plant extracts smooth and calm the skin, while vitamin B3 restores collagen and reduces redness.

NP Set Lip Balm With Benefits ($10 each) available in Baja (cherry) and Capri (coral)

· Trick: Adding a splash of color and shine to lips is an easy way to achieve a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
· Treat: Vitamins A, C and E and shea butter are packed in this travel-friendly pot to moisturize and plump dry, chapped lips.

Pixi Natural Brow Duo ($18)

· Trick: Shapely, fuller brows are not only on-trend, but help give a more youthful appearance, making eyes pop.
· Treat: This dual-ended tool includes a waterproof brow-powder pencil with an angled tip on one end. The other end houses a tinted soft-hold gel infused with vitamin B5 to keep unruly brows in place.

Umberto Beverly Hills Repair Treatment Masque ($9.99)

· Trick: For ultra soft hair, using an intense deep conditioning treatment is key. After applying the Repair Treatment Masque, heat a damp cotton towel in the microwave for 20 seconds and wrap around hair for 20 minutes. The moist heat opens the hair’s cuticle to seal in moisture.
· Treat: This mask is rich in marine derived amino acids and botanical proteins help to repair and seal split ends. Special co-polymers promote hair growth, plump the shaft and improved moisture retention.

Isn't that fun????  It makes me want to get my shopping cart and trick or treat for myself at Target!!!  How about you?  What are your Halloween plans?
