FENTY Beauty Match Stix Matte and Shimmer Skinstick Reviews on Dry Skin

Today I have my thoughts on some Fenty Beauty products that I purchased at Sephora.  Fenty Beauty is a new makeup line curated by singer/songwriter Rihanna.  It's had tons of buzz, particularly regarding the extended color choices for foundation - 40 shades!  I've included my youtube Get Ready With Me using the products for the first time and you can watch that to see what my immediate thoughts were.  My video also includes a couple of items that were released in the VIB presale for Holiday 2017 that I picked up during the event.   I have a few more thoughts and swatches below from wearing the products for just the few days I've had them and I've decided to break up the items into different categories because this is getting hella long.

I wasn't one of the people who were at the computer at launch time.  I actually wasn't interested in the line at all but the day after it came out, I was in Sephora for the Holiday Preview and figured I might take a look.  The counter was mobbed as people were much more interested in Fenty than in the limited holiday items on the Sephora shelves.  I knew there were supposed to be contour sticks and that there might be some cool shades, so I started there.

The Match Stix, (.30 0z / $25), whether matte or shimmering, are pretty interesting.  The shape is a six sided hexagon which is magnetized so that you can store them all together.  I think it is a great price for the amount and quality of what you get.

contour, matte, skinshimmer, highlighter

The Matte Match Stix that I chose was Truffle, a neutral deep tone.  I like deep toned contours because they're usually more cool toned than lighter shades.  I buff them out and it works for me!  Even when I'm at my fairest.  For me, a good contour is all about the undertone, not necessarily the depth of color.  The other shade I looked at was Mocha, a deeper cool tone.  I like to go to Sephora with just concealer and foundation so that I can try things on and Truffle seemed just a little bit better for me.  It is on the left in the picture.

matte, shimmer, unicorn, contour, highlighter

The two Matte Stix Shimmer Skinsticks that caught my eye were Starstruck, (a pearl champagne with teensy weensy tone on tone micro-shimmers, pictured in the middle), and Confetti, (a pink toned violet iridescence with violet glitter particles, pictured on the top).  I couldn't help but be captivated by these as they have what I feel is the perfect consistancy.  A lot of creamy stick type cheek products can be rather greasy feeling to me and these go from a cream stick to dry down with perfection, in my book.

I've applied them from the applicator, tapped on with my fingers, and with a brush and my experience is that they blend like a dream no matter my application method.  They dry quickly, but not so quick that you can't finish blending one side of your face at a time.  In other words, when I apply my contour, I do half of my face and blend it before it dries down and then continue by applying the other side, etc.  I think there is a risk with the Matte Match Stix that if you applied it all over the face before you blend, it could begin to get too dry before you finish.

I haven't had any issues with fallout from Confetti yet so I can't say if that will happen or not.  I wore it once over my foundation, once as a blend with Starstruck and once with powder highlighter over it.  I compared Starstruck to Wet N Wild and Maybelline highlighting sticks that I have and, again, I prefer the drier consistancy for a much truer color when worn.  I don't really like the greasy feeling sticks, even though I've used them.  I definitely prefer a quicker drying cream or liquid highlighter like the Fenty or Cover FX illuminating drops.

I've swatched the three sticks heavily in the picture, 3x each in hopes that you can see the tones better.

Here is a picture in Sephora where I swatched all the Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks together, 1x each.  Starstruck is third from the bottom and Confetti is the 7th shade from the bottom.   The bluer toned violet is called Unicorn and boy oh boy does the Sephora website have that shade looking wrong!  Sometime when I'm in Sephora, I'm going to try that delicious papaya shade second from bottom, and the peach directly under Unicorn.  I was going to try to name the shades but I'd probably get it all wrong.  :/

The quality of the Match Stix exceeded my expectations and I was surprised at what I felt was a low price point for a celebrity endorsed line.  I'm really happy with those choices.  You can also purchase them in collated three piece trio sets which have a matte concealer stick, a matte contour and a highlighter for $54 instead of the $75 that they cost individually.  The come in sets based on skintone range; i.e. light, medium, tan and deep.

Before we part for today, I want to share with you my subsequent thoughts on the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Lipgloss.  The gloss is described as a universal shade and I'd agree with that.  It is a sheer toned caramel that tastes like caramel.  It is shiny but honestly, I was disappointed in it.  It didn't give the wet glass glossy shine that I'd seen on Instagram and Snapchat from people who attended the launch party.  Granted, the lighting at the launch event was maximized to make the products pop and glow, but still, I was disappointed in the amount of shine.  It's $18 which is decent for a mid end Sephora brand, but I expected a really high shine and I didn't get one.  The gloss is a pass for me but I totally get how people might love it.  I have swatches of the gloss in the video.

If you want to see my initial thoughts on first application, feel free to watch the video.  You'll see what the colors look like on me as well.   Thanks for viewing. Please subscribe and thumbs up my channel if you happen to wander over to youtube.

The Tarte Cosmetics Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette, Swatches, Review, and Palette of the Season!!

2014 brought a rise in palettization. We moved from the idea of single shadows we arrange ourselves into the full on glory of beautiful palettes created for our enjoyment. 2015 starts with what could very well be the Palette Of The Year...the Tarte Cosmetics Tartelette Amazonian Clay palette, ($44). Behold the splendor.

I first spotted this eyeshadow palette at Sephora while out one day.  I tested it and when I put my finger in the shadow and felt the silkiness, I knew this would very well be in heavy competition for Palette Of The Year despite the year having just begun!  The shadows are soft like butter and the color payoff of each and every shade is amazing!  The pleasing balance of plums, warm browns and cool browns just makes it an all around killer matte palette.

sephora

This is a beauty.  A true princess and has no angle where it isn't completely photogenic.

swatches, Sephora, 2015

The Tartelette palette consists of twelve matte eyeshadows in three rows of four across.  If you pair the shades in the horizontal rows, you'll see that the four match together well.  The top row is a warm brown set with a warm beige, a coffee with cream shade, a pure milk chocolate, and a warm burnt umber.  The shade names of the first row, from left to right are:
Free Spirit, Force Of Nature, Dreamer and Multi-Tasker.

The middle row consists of some beautiful plums.  You have Caregiver, Natural Beauty, Best Friend and Bombshell.  The second row across moves through the plum spectrum from a light matte pale pink to a deep plum.

The bottom row consists of a cool brown toned family, beginning with a cool beige, a burnt sienna, a taupey brown and a soft black.  The names are Super Mom, Wanderer, Power Player and Fashionista.

review

I swatched these with my fingertips the first time.  Usually, I use sponge tip applicators.  I have deeply grooved fingerprints, which grab a LOT of shadow, and unfortunately, when I swatch, it then looks spotty.  WHICH THEY ARE NOT.  My fingertips just hold in the color.

Here are two swatches done with sponge brushes:

My gosh the pigment is great in these Amazonian clay shadows.  Isn't that an amazing difference between what my finger swatches would have you to believe and the truth of the matter?  And they go on the eye even smoother.  (I don't have an eye look for you yet...but I will!)

I might be the only person who can tell the difference between the two pictures here with the sponge swatching, but I show them because my arm rests slightly differently, and the light hits the arm in a different spot.  Anyway, it's a negligible difference but I feel the need to be diligent!!!

Sephora, swatches, review

This is just such a great palette with all around matte colors.  It can be used alone or is the perfect compliment to virtually every other shadow you probably own.  I've become a total Tarte fiend over the past year because of the excellent quality and value given to the consumer.

You may find this delicious eyeshadow set at Sephora, Ulta, and Tarte.com.  Doesn't the accompanying lipstick look pretty?  Oh yes, it does.  I don't have it but I'm making it my mission in the next couple of weeks to look for it.

Have you had your Tarte today?

Tarte Holiday 2014 Sweet Dreams Bon Voyage Collector's Set Review, Swatches and Pictures Galore!

This review is going to start by telling you that I'm declaring the Tarte Bon Voyage Collector's Set, ($59), to be THE set to have from all the Holiday 2014 offerings. Tarte Cosmetics is a vegan friendly, cruelty free brand, offering products that are designed to be good for the skin and are infused with superfruits, minerals, vitamins and essential oils to be good for the skin.  Considering how the brand is made, the generous amount of items in the set, it means the value and quality are unbelievable.

Declaring this set as THE Holiday 2014 piece to own is a pretty bold statement, so let me tell you why I said it, one aspect at a time.  The gift box and travel bag make a beautiful presentation if you're giving this as a gift or keeping it for yourself.

holiday 2014, eyeshadow, amazonian clay, maracuja oil, mascara

Doesn't it just look spectacular?  And royal, with it's purple and gold!!  This is a makeup case that you'll use over and over for it's beauty, durability and the amount of products it holds.  It will be beautiful on any vanity or dresser.

Opening the double zipper on the case reveals the makeup that comes with it.

Sephora Exclusive, Sweet Dreams, Lipsurgence, Maracuja oil, amazonian clay, cheek stain

The pouch in the lid contains an eyeshadow palette with 20 full sized Amazonian clay eyeshadows.  In the bottom are, from left to right:

One full size LipSurgence Romantic lip tint
One full size LipSurgence Visionary lipgloss
A deluxe sized Light, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara
One deluxe sized Muse cheek stain
A deluxe sized Maracuja oil
A deluxe size Smooth Operator Amazonian clay finishing powder.

All the items together are, get ready for this!, a $423 value and you can purchase the kit at Sephora  for $59!!!

When the insert is removed, you can see that there is a lot of room in the travel bag.  Enough for at least a week's worth of essentials and goodies.

Lipsurgence, Eyeshadow, Maracuja Oil, lipgloss, Muse Cheek Stain

Let's take some time to analyze the contents of the collection, since we've covered the bag so thoroughly.  First I'm going to have you look at the glorious Amazonian clay eyeshadow palette that is included in the kit.  It's called Tarte High Performance Neutrals.  The palette includes 20 full sized French-inspired shadows.

(All Tarte items, including those in this collection are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phythaltes, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate, gluten and are dermatologist tested.)

Behold the Tarte Holiday 2014 Sephora Exclusive Bon Voyage Collector's Set Eyeshadow Palette!  Capitalized because it's JUST THAT beautiful!

Sephora Exclusive, swatches, review, amazonian clay

Enough shimmers and mattes to keep everyone happy!!!
There are so many shades here to choose from.  This palette alone would be a great deal for the price of the set, making them slightly over two dollars a shadow.  Incredible!!  But you get so much more.

Would you like to see some swatches?  I thought you might.

The names of the shadows are, (left to right and swatched in the same order):
Top row:
Palace Of Versailles, Moulin Rouge, I Think I Cannes, My Own Cotes du Rhone, Boudoir Noir

Second Row:
Fall In Louvre, Provence Upon a Time, Eiffel For You, Too Haute To Handle, Bastille In The Night
Swatched above and below are other purples in the palette to compare with the plum, Bastille In the Night.

Third Row:

I have two pictures for you.  The first under regular light and the second was when a ray of sunshine hit my arm.  Gah!!!  The greeeeeen!!!!!

Bottom Row:
C'est le Vie, Marseille the Word, Play Nice, On A Good Notre Dame, Le Cordon Bleu

review, Holiday 2014, Sweet Dreams Sephora Exlusive

It's so hard to do this palette justice in pictures.  Purples are notoriously difficult in front of a camera.  I do think these are fairly accurate, tho.  In the next picture, I wanted to show you the crazy amount of difference between using Nars shadow base on the left, and no base on the right.

I haven't color corrected in the photo, and they weren't in great light, so pay no attention to the color but look how much difference a shadow base can make.  Choose your base wisely because this palette is full of pigment.  When you see the plum on the end in real life, you'll just know it's the perfect Holiday smoky eye color.

Holy pigment, Batman!!

Included in the Bon Voyage set are a LipSurgence Lip Tint in Romantic and a Visionary LipSurgence lip gloss.  Both are very nice alone or together.   The LipSurgence pencil is that wonderful minty flavor that we all know and love from a Tarte pencil.  The gloss is a wonderful vanilla and the two paired together make a delicious holiday treat.

The lip tint in Romantic is a nice apricot color, and the lipgloss is a coordinating peach.  The lip tint goes to the pink side on my arm but stays true to color on my lips.  It's really pretty.

Also included in the set is a deluxe .23 ounce size of Tarte's Maracuja oil.  My friend Tracy was with me when I opened this set.  She said the Maracuja oil is the best thing ever!!  I've learned that when Tracy says that, I better follow because she's right.  I asked her why she loves it so much and she told me that she has dry skin that can get flaky, especially in colder months and using the oil has really helped her.  She told me that it doesn't feel heavy like a moisturizing cream but it really does what it's supposed to, and it doesn't make her break out.  Win! Win!

skin care, Sweet Dreams, Bon Voyage Collector's set, Vegan, swatches, Holiday 2014, cruelty free

Look what Tarte says about the oil:
"- After 6 weeks, 96% of women saw an overall visible improvement in skin and 91% saw a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles*
                                     - Immediately after application, 93% of women said skin appeared free of excess oil
                                                    - 90% of women said skin appeared smoother and softer* "

I haven't had the oil long enough to be able to comment on the claims but I tell you what, this oil absorbs VERY quickly, leaving no greasy feel.  I'm thinking Tracy knows what she's talking about!

Another of the really pretty items in the set is the Tarte Cheek Stain in the color Muse.  This is also a deluxe sample size at .17 oz.  Muse is a limited edition color.  WHAT?  Say it ain't so, Tarte!!!  This baby is totes gorge!!!

Bon Voyage Collector's set, sephora exclusive, Holiday 2014, Bon Voyage Collector's set, sephora exclusive, Holiday 2014,

I have two swatches in different lighting.  Why?  Well, they look just a tad different, where one shows more of the glow than the other.  Muse is a delicious nude glow.  SO PRETTY!!!  This will work for any skintone, either as a glowing cheek tint or a glow from within highlight.  It's not shiny, it glows.  Beautifully.  It dries down to the most beautiful color.  FAB!  AB FAB!

Last, but not least, in the Tarte Bon Voyage Collector's Set and Travel Bag kit are a deluxe size, (.13 oz), Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara.  It is opthomologist tested.  It's said to deliver a 330% increase in lash volume immediately.  That's, like...a lot!!!

mascara, powder, swatches, cruelty free, vegan friendly

The deluxe, (.07 oz), Smooth Operator Amazonian clay finishing powder, like all Tarte offers, is cruelty free.  This powder is also vegan-friendly.

I'm going to end with some snippets of the eyeshadow palette.  You can blow these up larger by clicking on the pictures.  I did groups of two, so I need to make sure you know one row is duplicated.  There are five rows down...not six.

And then some random pictures of chunks here and there to show the gorgeous, gorgeous shimmer shadows.  I'm partial to shimmer myself, so these knocked my socks off.  they're pretty!!

Again you can click to make them larger.

Do you think you'll be picking up this set from Sephora?   It's exclusive to Sephora and a limited edition Holiday 2014 item.  It won't be available forever.

I think this has been my longest post ever to date in four years of blogging,  and with the most pictures.  I really hope it helps you in your holiday shopping decisions.

What is your favorite piece in the set?  Your favorite of the shadows?  Let me know which Holiday items you are most looking forward to.
