Are Makeup Revolution New-Trals Vs Neutrals & Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Palettes Dupes?

Press Sample

When I received the Makeup Revolution Professional Eyeshadow Palette New-Trals Vs Neutrals, I was struck by what seemed to be a strong similarity in look to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance shadow palette.  I posted a picture on Instagram and got a lot of messages asking how similar it was to the Modern Renaissance.  Was it a dupe?  Let's see.

This palette contains 16 shadows and runs strong in the orange, red and neutral categories.  It has a double sided brush, (which I find useful), inside for application.  Some swatches should help, right?

It has everything...shimmering lights, mediums and dark...matte lights, mediums and dark.  The last shade on the bottom doesn't show correctly for the camera on my arm.  It is a deep plum with red-violet particles.  The only way I could show you it's pretty purpleness was to show you on my eye.  I found it really tough to accurately portray the colors across my arm...one half would be accurate and the other a little less so....but the colors are really a great mix and apply easily.   They last all day for me over concealer on the eye.  I got into a zone for awhile where this palette was all I wanted to wear.  (My flash washed out my look just a little - it was more vibrant in person.)

I had so many questions about the comparison to ABH that I posted some pictures of them together on my Instagram.

You can see that many shades are similar but there are marked differences.  The red toned colors in the Anastasia palette are much cooler and more pink toned.  The New-Trals vs Neutrals palette has warmer tones in the red and oranges, which also all have shimmer whereas the pinks and orange in the ABH are all matte.

Here are swatches of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette.

The Modern Renaissance palette is more powdery but also more pigmented.  It has 14 shades, a two ended brush, and a total of .28 oz. of product for $45.  It doesn't have a very deep shade to finish off the outer eye, if you prefer those to do so.

The Makeup Revolution palette has 16 shades, a total weight of .56 oz. and retails for $12.  It is both a good working alternative to the ABH as well as a good addition to your palette wardrobe if you already have the Anastasia.  I can't see any reason not to have both if you already have the Modern Renaissance, which came out first.   For me, this palette fills a color gap I had and it's very affordable.  It also has the addition of the danged gorgeous purple to bring the darkness you might wish to your eye.  Both companies are cruelty-free.

My suggestion would be to hit up Ulta and check out this palette.  They often have BOGO1/2 sales in this brand as well, plus coupons for money off drugstore items.  I'm really impressed with this brand and am excited to share it with you.  They honestly have something for everyone and their Affirmation is one of my top eyeshadow palettes of 2016.

I want to be sure to tell you that this is a nice stand alone palette.  I did the comparison because I had so many requests, but it doesn't need to be judged against ABH to realize it's value.  It's good in it's own right and makes an excellent addition to any collection.

I'm curious what you think about the similarities and differences and if this would be a good fit for you.  What is your favorite Makeup Revolution item?

Becca Cosmetics Prismatic Amethyst Pressed Shimmering Highlighter, Pics, Swatches and Dupe Comparisons

Have you heard all the buzz this week in makeupland?  It's about the new highlighter that hit the market from Becca Cosmetics.  It is Prismatic Amethyst Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed Powder, ($38 / .25 oz), or as we like to call it, highlighter.  Becca released this as a pre-sale to Sephora VIB members and it will be on sale to everyone at Sephora on Feb. 22nd.

As the name implies, the compact has a gorgeous amethyst colored outer rim and bottom and contains an opalescent amethyst powder with the same gorgeous topagraphy as was issued with the recent Rose Quartz highlighter.  I  have a youtube video with comparisons to many highlighters that I have in my stash and will be inserted below.

Rose quartz, highlighter

Doesn't it look so much cooler in tone than the Rose Quartz?  Take a closer look, but reserve your buying decision for the swatches!

The powder is a lavender with pink and opal iridescence.  On my skin, it shows as the most beautiful pink toned glow.  I'd love to see it on someone with strong yellow tones and see how it looks on them.  This will be stunning on darker skintones.  It is exactly the color I had hoped Rose Quartz to be on my skin.

If you'd like to see more swatches and swatch comparisons to other highlighters, please view the following youtube video.  I'd be thankful for any likes, subscribing or comments you wish to do.

The Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prismatic Amethyst will be available to the public on February 22, 2017 and is linked right here, with my affiliate.  It is the same great quality that we've come to know and love from Becca.

I'm dying to know what you think of this highlighter.  Will you be purchasing?  I'm thankful to my friend Tracy who encouraged me to get it and was patient with me while I got frustrated with Paypal, lol.  Anyway, I think she's a beauty and I'm dying to know if you have anything else like it.

Jesse's Girl Cosmetics Back Stage Collection Eye Shadow Palettes - Pics, Swatches, and Reviews

Today I am bringing you some eyeshadow palettes from the cruelty-free brand Jesse's Girl Cosmetics.  It's been nearly five years since I met Jesse and Julie G at their booth at Cosmoprof North America.  It's hard to believe it's been that long but what a blast that was.  Jesse is hilarious and Julie G is kind and warm and I just fell in love with her.  When the opportunity came to review the Sounds Of The City and the Natural Nudes Collection eyeshadow palettes, I jumped at the chance to work with them again.  Let's take a look.

The Natural Nudes Collection palette, ($6.99), has ten warm shades ranging from a very light beige to a deep brown.  The idea is that you can easily take this from day to night.  Just pop it in your purse and you're ready to go anytime.  It works from home to office to a night out and is travel friendly.  When I gave a first glance on my social media channels, people were dying to see it swatched and reviewed.  You can see why.

Isn't it pretty?  It weighs 13 grams so it won't add bulk to your carry-on bag or your purse or backpack.  It's got a nice ten pan selection of nudes...and hello, aren't we all just drawn to that amber in the top row?  Yaaaaaaas!!

It swatches nicely.  Because it is a nude palette, you're sure to find one of the colors will match your skintone and the bottom, second from the left, matched mine.  However with a primer, you can enjoy any of the colors.  Here is the top row in full on sun:

And inside my house:

And the bottom row:

And all together.

I've been wearing both palettes a lot over the past couple of weeks to get a feel for them so that I can give you my analysis.  Somehow during that time, I didn't get a picture.  I sent a lot of pictures to Snapchat but only saved one dorky picture from Snap...if you want to see it.  I was trying out the Jesse's Girl matte liquid lipstick in the color Angelic.  It's a beautiful coral rose.  These are one of my top three favorite liquid lipstick formulas.  It's lightweight when you apply it and yet is very long lasting.  Super comfortable to wear and not drying whatsoever.   They are just $3.99 each and I'm going to need every color!!

The other Back Stage Collection shadow palette is called Sounds Of The City.  I love that name.  I was ecstatic when I saw the cool toned nudes.  How often do you see a cool toned shadow palette anywhere anymore, especially one with nudes?!?!?

Again, you can take this palette from easy daytime to dramatic evening, and I've done so.  For my skintone, the three shades on the top row that look similar...they show up similar on my eyes as well.  For my personal coloring, more variation of these shades might make the palette a little better for me but at $6.99, I'm not complaining!!!  I'm getting several looks that I can wear.

To me, the matte shades on the bottom of the palette have a stronger payoff than in the Natural Nudes Collection.  Aren't these fun?  You can certainly mix and match the palettes...I haven't done so yet in order to keep my opinion of each pure and set on each particular palette.  I've worn this one a lot.

As a matter of fact, during the SAG Awards, I was observing the makeup trends and was playing around with a red carpet look.  I noted all the nude eyes that I saw.  It was like the Louvre...there were nudes everywhere!!!  So I grabbed the Sounds Of The City Collection to do the beige lids that I was seeing, and threw a little drama in the crease to satisfy my craving and this is what I came up with.

I'm having a lot of fun creating with these palettes.  They have medium pigmentation...not too light and not too heavy.  The colors are buildable.  I have to be careful with the Sounds Of The City Collection or I can make it too monotone on my skintone.  You just can't beat the bargain of this cruelty-free brand.

You can purchase Jesse's Girl Cosmetics at their website, Amazon.com, and Rite-Aid.  Don't overlook this brand.  They have some of my favorite nail polishes and lipglosses, too.  Be sure to keep up with them on social media on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest and now on Snapchat as well.

What are your favorite items from Jesse's Girl Cosmetics?

This Winter Got Me All Walkin' In A Pixi Beauty Wonderland - Holiday 2016

You don't want to miss the Holiday 2016 offerings from Pixi Beauty.  I look forward to them every year and this year, they really knocked it out of the park, just like always.  If you've wished for a "one and done" palette, or the perfect on trend pigments, or perhaps that awesome classic red lipstick, this collection is for you.  Pixi Beauty is a cruelty-free company.
holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,
(A little FYI - my post got disrupted by a couple of twisting falls that would put any gymnast in great envy, I'm sure.  I may or may not need another surgery on my knee, may or may not be determined by next week, but whoa, everything had to go into slo-mo for a little bit...dr's orders.  I feel so dumb...but the Pixi collection is everything I'd hoped it to be and more and I wanted to tell you go hurry and find it!!)

The Pixi Holiday items always sell out so fast at the Target stores in my area...I'd be kind of embarrassed to tell you how many times, and how many times a day that I was going to search for these.  I was thrilled when they arrived at my door.  I'd been showing them off quite a bit on social media as I wore them non-stop to develop my opinion for you.  You may still be able to find them in your local Target, well, especially the ones that are regular stock.

First up is the Palette Rosette, or Rosy Radiance,  Face Palette, $28.  This palette contains 8 eye shades, three for brows, and three face colors.  The lid marks each with the suggested use, making this a perfect gift for any level of makeup artistry, from beginner to expert.

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

Take this with you to the gym or work and you can use this one palette to go from day to nighttime with ease.  I love that it comes with the three brow hues on the bottom.  You have a light, medium and dark, a blonde, a warm tone and a cool tone all within the three colors.  This allows you to perfectly match your brows.

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

Here are swatches of the brow tones:

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

I'm going to interrupt my swatches for a second.  Pixi had also sent me some items to be able to create a #FlawlessInFive face.  These go perfectly with my Palette Rosette looks.  You might have seen the following picture on Instagram.

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

From left to right are the Endless Silky Eye Pen in Graphite Greige, ($12), Endless Brow Gel Pen ($11) in Medium, black Lengthy Fiber Lash Mascara, ($16),  and the amazing Mattelustre Lipstick in Classic Red ($12).  I want to insert these items and show them in the swatches.  The eye and brow "pens" are pencils, so just use them with a sharpener to keep them fresh.  The Endless Silky Eye Pen is a non-budging liner pencil.  It's everything I've been looking for!!!  I have such a problem with one eye running from allergies and this is the only liner I've used since moving to Phoenix that doesn't budge.  Pixi sent over the Endless Eye Pen in the color Opal Overcoat to put that shine to the inner corner when wearing a fabu look.

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

The Endless Brow Gel Pen in medium is a perfect fit for me.  It wears very well.  It's really hard to find a medium brown tone that isn't warm.  Most medium brown pencils are too red for me, but this is a great match.  It applies with ease and doesn't skip.  I'm really happy with this one, and I love the separation and length I get from the mascara as well.  It's hard for me to believe that such top quality comes with such a low price!!

Classic Red is a MatteLustre formula.  When these came out last year, I tried one and then another and another...you know, like potato chips.  The price is SO good but the quality is even better.  They are a comfortable matte lipstick that wears a long time and doesn't feel dry.  An absolute steal for $12!!  I already had purchased Classic Red, so I'm quite familiar with it and how perfect it is for wear with these products.  It is pictured below with the Holiday Fairy Dust sampler.

    And let's show some swatches:

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

It occurs to me know that maybe I should have labeled everything, but I think you can figure it out.  From the left, on the top row, are the three eye contours, the day/night lid shades, the highlights and Classic Red lipstick.

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette,

The bottom row, from left to right, are the three brow colors, the Enhancing Contour, Cheek Blush and All-Over Glow.  Next is the Opal and Greige Endless Silky Eye Pens, followed by the medium brown Brow pen.  Add the mascara and you have a variety of endless sophisticated looks to take you from home to office to nightlife.

But then there are the Fairy Dusts!!  These are amazing pigments that can be used for eye shadow, wet as liner or foiled, or for a sheen of color to pop your look.  Use them on the lid or as a highlight anywhere.  I thought I had taken a million pictures of the look I did with them for my anniversary, but umm...it all went on Snapchat.  And I haven't taken others, well you know cuz I thought I had a bunch, but I'll do a subsequent post showing a look with these items.

The Fairy Dust Favorites in this years stack are Sheer Peach Glow, True Bronze, Ruby Sheen, Sunkissed Amber and Black Pearl.  I love how they're stacked in a plastic container that you can take anywhere.  You should know that I never have fallout with these!!  Ever.  And spray a little makeup setting spray on some pigment on your brush and you have a brilliant foiled color for liner or lid, or pop in the middle of your lip for extra highlight.

The first four pigments are high shimmer while the black is sparsly shimmered, as most people would prefer for liner.

I have swatches in full sun.

These colors are beautiful, long wearing, non-creasing, have no fallout, and completely on trend.  You can purchase full sized Fairy Dust pigments for just $10.  They're amazing.

Now you know all the reasons I was flipping my lid all over social media about these Pixi items.  They're so pretty!  They perform so well!!  And Pixi just got me all...

holiday, fairy dust, lipstick, eye pencil, face palette, favorites, pigment

You can find Pixi Beauty online and in stores at Target or online on Pixi's own website.  They have free shipping at just $25!!!  That's awesome.  Be sure to follow their social media on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram.   Pixi is a cruelty-free company.  I'll be covering some Pixi skincare items in the near future, and you won't want to miss that.

What are your favorite Pixi items?  Are you fortunate enough to be able to shop at a Pixi Boutique or do you purchase at Target?
