I was really happy to see this quad because I'd been looking for a deep smokey blue and a smokey purple that I could take with me on my trip to Cosmoprof 2012 in Las Vegas. The group of bloggers that were there had a couple of evening meetings and I figured Vegas...it's gotta be bold and smokey. At just the right time for me, this quad was released.
It's far more gorgeous than my pictures show. And just trust me, you need this. You can use it for liners if you don't want to place it on the whole lid.

The swatches were done with sponge applicators. I usually use fingers but I thought I'd be really uptown and use applicators, which unfortunately seem to retain more of the shadow than fingers do. In real life, I use brushes to apply my shadow. Brushes don't suck up shadows like sponges do so I get more bang for the shadow buck.
The colors in the quad are a bronzed amber with pink, bronze and golden sparkles, a blackened violet with fuchsia sparkles, blackened navy with cobalt and purple sparkles, and a deep gunmetal grey with silver sparkles.
The next photo is a little blurry which shows off the sparkles a little better.

And to show you how I wore it in Las Vegas, here it is in use.

It lasted through a crazy fun dinner party with Katie Cazorla, owner of The Painted Nail and star of the show Nail Files.. You can see more about that in this post.
I paired the shadow quad with Revlon Kissable Just Bitten Lip Balm Stain in the color Crush. Both of these items are favorites in my makeup arsenal and get a lot of use. There was a touch of a Bobbi Brown lipgloss in the middle as well.

You can purchase the Maybelline Eyestudio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Quads at virtually any drugstore, mass merchant or Drugstore.com for less than $10. Most stores often have coupons as well.
So tell me what your favorite items from the drugstore are. Do they hold up to your department store purchases? Have you tried any of the Maybelline Eyestudio shadow quads? What do you think?

Very pretty! Thanks for sharing. I've never really given these quads a second look but this one is hot! Sorta reminds me of the Nars Arabian Nights trio that disappointed a lot of people, except these seem smoother and more affordable.
ReplyDeleteMuch more affordable and on the whole, better pigmentation than Nars. If you have Fred Meyer, they currently have a cosmetic special of buy 1, get one 1/2 off.
DeleteI have one Eyestudio quad and I love it!! I love the pigmentation and the vast variety of shades available. I also love how creamy and velvety they are going on.
ReplyDeleteI should blog them all. I have most of them. Some are basics. They've got a great array of colors and like you said, they're creamy and smooth. A+ in every way.
